Power plug adapters let a device with one plug standard connect to a socket of another standard, or change the mains connector on a power cable. They suit travellers, people using imported equipment, and office or IT buyers. In our range you will find products from GEMBIRD, ZEBRA and MicroConnect.
The selection is small, so it is easy to compare models by plug type and rated current.
How to choose a power plug adapter
Plug standards. Start with the plug on your device and the type of socket you will use. Lithuania uses Type C and Type F (Schuko) sockets, UK equipment uses the Type G plug, and American equipment uses Type A or B. Both ends of the adapter must match these standards.
Voltage. An adapter changes only the shape of the connection, not the voltage. Most laptop and phone chargers accept 100 to 240 V, which is printed on the label. A device marked for 110 V only needs a separate voltage converter.
Current and power rating. The maximum current or power marked on the adapter must be higher than what the device draws. Chargers use little energy, while heaters, kettles and hair dryers use far more and need an adapter rated accordingly.
Earthing. Devices with a three-pin plug often depend on the earth connection, so choose an adapter that keeps it. A two-pin adapter is fine for double-insulated chargers, which do not use earth.
Build and markings. The adapter should sit firmly in the socket without wobbling. Check for CE marking, and make sure any IEC cable or connector it joins suits your equipment.
Brands we carry
- GEMBIRD: a manufacturer known for computer cables, adapters and accessories, so its power adapters are often used with home and office equipment.
- ZEBRA: best known for barcode scanners, mobile computers and label printers, so its power accessories are normally meant for that equipment. Check compatibility in the product description.
Also in our range: MicroConnect.
Frequently asked questions about power plug adapters
Does a plug adapter change the voltage?
No, a plug adapter only changes the shape of the plug so it fits a different socket. The voltage stays whatever the mains supply provides. Before using a device abroad, check that the voltage range on its label covers the local supply.
Which adapter do I need to use UK or US devices in Lithuania?
You need an adapter whose input side matches the device plug (Type G for the UK, Type A or B for the US) and whose output fits a Type C or F socket. For US devices, voltage matters too, because the mains voltage there is much lower than in Lithuania. Laptop and phone chargers usually show a wide voltage range on the label.
Can I use an adapter with a laptop charger?
Yes, as long as the adapter's rated current and power exceed what the charger draws and the charger works on the local voltage. Laptop chargers normally draw modest power, so this rarely causes problems. Also check whether the charger has an earth pin and whether the adapter keeps it.
Can I connect several adapters one after another?
It is better to avoid it. Stacked adapters hold less firmly, add contact resistance and can make the plug warm. If you need to go between two standards, use one suitable adapter or a suitable power cable.
