This category covers external power supplies and adapters for network equipment, NAS devices and other DC-powered gear. It suits anyone replacing a faulty or lost original adapter. Our range includes over 10 products, mostly from Synology, with Allnet, Exsys and D-Link also represented.
How to choose a power supply for network equipment
Output voltage. The voltage must match exactly what is printed on the original adapter or the device itself. Our range includes 12 V and 5 V models, and the wrong voltage can damage a router, switch or NAS.
Current and wattage. The current (A) or power (W) of the new adapter should be equal to the original or higher. An underpowered supply runs hot, and the device may restart or fail to boot, especially when a NAS is working with several drives.
Connector and polarity. Check the outer and inner diameter of the plug and the polarity symbol on the label. Plugs can look identical yet differ by a fraction of a millimetre, and reversed polarity can damage the equipment.
Exact model. If you know the device's model code, look for an adapter made for that model, for example one for a Synology NAS. That way you do not have to match the specifications by hand, and there is less room for error.
Brands in this category
- Synology: known for its NAS devices and the DSM operating system, and the brand with the most products here.
- D-Link: makes routers, switches and other networking hardware, so its power supplies are meant for that kind of device.
- Allnet: a German company supplying networking and IoT equipment.
- Exsys: specialises in interface cards and USB and serial adapters.
- Kärcher: best known for cleaning equipment, so choose its power supplies only by the exact model of the appliance.
Also in our range: TechniSat, CoreParts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use an adapter with a higher current than the original?
Yes, as long as the voltage and plug match. The device draws only the current it needs, so a supply with a higher rating in amps (A) does no harm, whereas one with a lower rating should not be used.
Will a power supply with a different voltage work?
No, the voltage must match the one stated on the device. Higher voltage can damage the electronics, and lower voltage will stop the device running stably. This matters most when choosing between 5 V and 12 V models.
How do I find out which power supply my router or NAS needs?
Look at the label on the old adapter or on the underside of the device. It lists the output voltage (V), current (A) and a polarity symbol. If the label has worn away, search the manufacturer's specification by model code.
What is the difference between an AC/DC adapter and a DC power supply?
An AC/DC adapter converts mains alternating current into the direct current that electronics need. A DC power supply delivers direct current at a fixed voltage, such as 5 V or 12 V. Most adapters for network equipment work on the first principle and give the device direct current from a wall socket.
