This category covers internal cable kits for a PC power supply: 24-pin motherboard, CPU and graphics card cables, plus custom sleeved sets. They suit anyone replacing the stock cables or building a tidier system. CableMod has the most products here, and you will also find Corsair, Noctua, Lian Li and Supermicro items.
How to choose a PSU cable kit
Compatibility with your power supply. The pin layout on the power supply end of modular cables differs between manufacturers and sometimes between series. Choose a kit made for your exact PSU model or series, because the wrong cable can damage components.
What the kit contains. A full kit usually includes a 24-pin ATX cable, CPU EPS cables and PCIe cables for the graphics card. If you only need to replace one part, a single cable will do, for example one for a 12VHPWR (12V-2x6) graphics card connector.
Length. In a small case, cables that are too long end up bunched together. In a large case, or one with the PSU mounted at the bottom, short cables may not reach the connector. Measure the distance from the PSU to the motherboard and to the graphics card.
Sleeving and colour. If your case has a glass side panel, colour and sleeving decide how the inside looks. Individually sleeved wires stand out more, while flat ribbon-style cables bend more easily and are simpler to hide in a tight space.
Brands in our range
- CableMod: known for custom sleeved cable kits made for many different power supply models, and it accounts for most of the products in this category in our range.
- Corsair: makes cables for its own modular power supplies, so the kit must be matched to the specific PSU model or series.
- Noctua: best known for quiet fans and CPU coolers, and its cables complement a cooling setup.
- Lian Li: known for aluminium PC cases and Strimer RGB cables that add lighting inside the system.
- Supermicro: a maker of server and workstation motherboards, and its cable kits are intended for its own platforms.
Frequently asked questions about PSU cable kits
Can I use another manufacturer's cables with a modular power supply?
No, you should not. The connectors on modular PSUs may look identical, but the pin layout differs, so the wrong cable can damage the power supply or other components. Use only cables specified for your PSU model or series.
Does a cable kit work with a non-modular power supply?
Usually not. On a non-modular unit the cables are fixed to the power supply, so there are no sockets for detachable cables. Cable kits are made for modular power supplies.
Which cable do I need for a graphics card with a 12VHPWR connector?
You need a cable with one end that matches the graphics card connector (12VHPWR or 12V-2x6) and the other end that fits your power supply sockets. Check both sides: the PSU manufacturer and model, and the graphics card maker's requirements.
How do I replace the cables on a power supply?
Switch off the computer, unplug the power cable from the mains and replace the cables one at a time, so you do not mix up the connectors. Before switching on, check that every connector is fully seated and that no cable is under tension or touching a fan.
