The two-way radios category covers handheld walkie-talkies for communicating without a mobile network, on building sites, hikes, in warehouses or on family trips. Our range includes over 30 models, mostly from BAOFENG and MOTOROLA, along with products from PRESIDENT, PNI and LUITON.
How to choose a two-way radio
Frequencies and permits. For everyday use, PMR446 radios are usually enough, as they can be used in the EU without a licence, though their transmitter power is limited. Models that can transmit on other frequencies are often aimed at radio amateurs or professional use, so check whether a permit is needed before you use them.
Operating range. The maximum range stated for products in our range runs from 4000 to 10,000 m, but such figures are measured in open terrain without obstacles. Inside buildings, in woods or among tall structures the real distance is much shorter, so choose with a margin.
Power supply. Check whether the radio uses a rechargeable battery or ordinary batteries, and how it charges: in a cradle or over USB. For long shifts or trips, a spare battery that can be swapped quickly is handy.
Durability. If you work outdoors, look for protection against dust and water (given as an IP rating), a sturdy casing and a belt clip. Check the product description to see whether a particular model has such protection.
Display and features. Our range includes models with LED and LCD displays. A display shows the channel or frequency, while simpler radios without one are fine when you only need a few channels. VOX (voice-activated transmission), a headset socket and noise reduction are also useful.
Two-way radio brands in our range
- BAOFENG: widely known for handheld radios popular with radio amateurs, as many models allow the frequencies to be programmed.
- MOTOROLA: has made two-way radio equipment for decades, and its consumer Talkabout series is designed for simple use without complicated settings.

Also in our range: LUITON.
Frequently asked questions about two-way radios
What range of walkie-talkie do I need?
For building sites, warehouses or a hike with the family, a stated range of a few kilometres is usually enough, since the real distance is always shorter than the figure on the box. If you work in open country, choose a model with a higher stated range, such as 8000 or 10,000 m.
Do I need a licence for two-way radios?
PMR446 radios do not need a licence if they comply with EU rules and are used only on the frequencies intended for them. Using other frequencies, such as amateur bands, may require a permit, so check before you start.
Do two-way radios work without internet or mobile coverage?
Yes, a radio sends its signal directly to other radios, so no internet or operator network is needed. All the radios must be set to the same channel. Buildings and terrain weaken the signal.
Can radios from different manufacturers work together?
Usually yes, provided they operate in the same frequency band and are set to the same channel and sub-tone (CTCSS or DCS). Digital or manufacturer-specific modes may not be compatible, so check the product description.
