Fans and filters for liquid cooling: this category holds radiator and case fans as well as dust filters. It suits anyone building or expanding a custom cooling loop, or protecting a radiator from dust. Most of our range comes from Alphacool, and there are also products from Demciflex and Levelplay.
How to choose a fan or filter for liquid cooling
Size. The fan or filter must match the mounting holes of your radiator and case. The most common sizes are 120 mm and 140 mm, but check the dimensions of your own radiator and case before buying.
Static pressure or airflow. Air has to be pushed through the dense fins of a radiator, so fans with high static pressure suit radiators best. For general case ventilation, overall airflow matters more, because the air moves more freely there.
Noise and speed control. Higher speeds cool better but are louder. A fan with a 4-pin PWM connector lets the speed follow the load, so the PC stays quiet until it needs stronger cooling.
Dust filter. A filter in front of a fan or radiator keeps the fins from clogging with dust, which would gradually weaken cooling. Choose one that is easy to remove and clean. Bear in mind that a very fine mesh reduces airflow slightly.
Connectors and compatibility. Check that your motherboard has enough fan headers. If a fan has lighting, make sure your board or controller supports it.
Brands in this category
- Alphacool: a German manufacturer known for custom water cooling components such as radiators, water blocks, pumps and fittings, so its fans and filters are easy to combine with the rest of a loop.
- Demciflex: known for dust filters made to fit specific case models and fan sizes.
Also in our range: Levelplay.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need dust filters on a liquid-cooled PC?
Yes, filters are useful with liquid cooling too. Radiator fins clog with dust just like those of an air cooler, and a clogged radiator releases heat less effectively. A filter in front of the radiator or case fans greatly reduces that risk.
What size fan do I need for a radiator?
The size depends on the radiator: the fan must line up with its mounting holes. The most common sizes are 120 mm and 140 mm. You will find the exact size in the radiator specification, or you can measure it with a ruler.
How does a radiator fan differ from a case fan?
A radiator fan is usually designed for high static pressure, so air can pass through the dense fins. A case fan is geared more towards moving a large volume of air in open space. You can use a case fan on a radiator, but cooling may be weaker.
How often should a dust filter be cleaned?
It depends on the room, but checking the filter every few months is a sensible habit. Dust builds up faster in homes with pets or carpets. A removable filter can simply be blown clean or washed, then dried thoroughly before it goes back.
