Cable management

Cable management accessories are for anyone who wants to tidy the wiring inside a PC case: reusable ties, cable clips, braided sleeves and cable channels. They improve airflow, make it easier to swap components and keep the inside of the case neat. We do not list specific brands on this page, so below you will find general buying advice.

How to choose cable management accessories

Type of accessory. Reusable hook-and-loop straps suit builds that you upgrade often. Single-use plastic ties are firmer, but you have to cut them off whenever a cable needs replacing.

Number and thickness of cables. The motherboard power cable and the graphics card cables are thicker than data cables. A braided sleeve needs a little spare diameter, otherwise it is hard to pull over the connectors.

Fixing method. Many cases have loops and cut-outs behind the motherboard tray where ties can be threaded. Adhesive bases do not hold on every surface, especially when the inside of the case gets warm, so stick them to a clean, smooth area.

Length and flexibility. Measure the cable run from the power supply to the connector before buying. A strap that is too short will not wrap the whole bundle, and one that is too long leaves loose ends sticking out.

Colour and appearance. If your case has a glass or clear side panel, the cables are on show, so black or single-colour sleeves look tidier. With a closed case, durability matters more than colour.

Types of accessory to look for

  • Hook-and-loop straps: can be undone and reused, which helps in PCs that get regular upgrades.
  • Plastic cable ties: tighten once and hold firmly, so they suit cables you do not plan to change.
  • Braided sleeves: gather several wires into one flexible bundle and look good in the visible part of the case.
  • Cable channels and clips: fix to the case wall and guide the wires along a set route.

We do not currently list specific brands in this category, so it is best to choose by type, length and fixing method.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tidy the cables inside a PC case?

The usual method is to route the cables behind the motherboard tray and bind them with straps or ties. Connect the components first, then group the wires by length and fasten them to the loops in the case. Leave a little slack near the connectors so the cables do not bend too sharply.

Does cable management improve PC cooling?

Yes, tidy cables get in the way of airflow between the fans and components less. The difference is usually clearer in small cases where there is little spare room. In a large case it is more a matter of appearance and convenience.

Which is better: reusable straps or plastic cable ties?

Reusable straps are better if you plan to upgrade the PC, because they can be undone without tools. Plastic ties are firmer and cheaper, but they must be cut off and replaced. Many builders use both: ties where cables will stay put and straps where they will change.

Do I need extra accessories if my case already has cable management features?

Not always, since many cases come with loops and cut-outs, and some include straps. Extra accessories help when you have a lot of wires, the cables are too long or you want the visible part of the case to look tidier. Check how many fixing points your case has before buying.
