UPS batteries are replacement cells for uninterruptible power supplies in homes, offices and server rooms. How to choose a UPS battery
Compatibility. Start with the exact model of your UPS and look for a battery made for it. Check the voltage, capacity in ampere-hours (Ah), dimensions and terminal type. For APC units an RBC number is often given, and you can find it on the UPS label or in the manual.
Technology. Most batteries in our range are sealed lead acid (VRLA), with some standard lead acid ones and only isolated lithium-ion (Li-Ion) and NiMH items. Most UPS units are designed around VRLA batteries, so choose another technology only if the UPS manufacturer allows it.
Capacity and runtime. Battery capacity, together with the load you connect, decides how many minutes the UPS keeps your equipment running during a power cut. If you need more time, some UPS models accept extra battery modules, but only the ones specified by the manufacturer.
Age and environment. VRLA batteries typically last three to five years, and heat shortens that. Many products in our range list an operating temperature of 0 to 40 °C and relative humidity up to 90 or 95%, so keep the UPS in a cool, ventilated spot.
Replacing as a set. If your UPS uses several batteries, replace them all at once. A new cell wired to an old one quickly wears down to the old one's level and cuts the total runtime.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a UPS battery be replaced?
A VRLA battery usually needs replacing every three to five years. In a hot room, or with frequent discharges, it wears out sooner. If the runtime of your UPS has dropped noticeably, replace the battery earlier.
Can I fit a higher-capacity battery than the original?
Not always. The voltage must match, and the battery has to fit the housing and have the right terminals. A higher capacity can extend runtime, but the UPS charger is designed for a certain capacity, so check with the manufacturer first.
What is the difference between VRLA and lithium-ion batteries?
VRLA is a sealed lead acid battery that needs no topping up with fluid, and most UPS units are built for it. Lithium-ion batteries are lighter and usually last longer, but they only suit UPS systems that the manufacturer designed for them.
How do I know my UPS battery needs replacing?
The UPS itself usually shows a warning or beeps during a self-test. Other signs are a much shorter runtime, a swollen battery case or unusual heat. If the case is swollen, replace the battery immediately.
