How to choose saw blades
Tool and fitting. The blade has to match the type of saw first: jigsaw, reciprocating saw, circular saw and multi-tool blades are not interchangeable. Most jigsaws take a T-shank blade, but some older or simpler models use a different fitting. For a circular saw, match both the outer diameter and the bore size.
Material to cut. Wood blades have larger, wider-set teeth, while metal blades have fine teeth and harder steel. Plastic, laminate and tile call for different blades again. A blade marked for several materials is handy for renovation work, but it leaves a rougher cut than a dedicated one.
Tooth size and shape. Fewer, larger teeth cut faster but leave a coarser edge, which is fine for beams or garden timber. More small teeth give a smoother cut in laminate, veneered boards and thin sheet metal. Ground or tapered teeth chip the surface of a board less.
Blade material. HCS carbon steel is inexpensive and works for softwood and chipboard, but it wears quickly in hard materials. A bi-metal blade combines a flexible body with hard teeth, so it lasts longer in metal or in wood with nails. Carbide-tipped (HM) blades cost more but stay sharp much longer in hardwood, laminate and abrasive boards. Our range runs from basic blades to those made for professional use.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which blade fits my jigsaw?
Look at the shank of your old blade or check the tool manual. In most cases it is a T-shank, and the blade must also match in length and tooth pitch for the material. Blades from different manufacturers often fit a saw with the same shank type.
Can one blade cut both wood and metal?
Some blades are sold for both, but it is always a compromise. A wood blade dulls quickly in metal, and a metal blade cuts wood slowly. For wood with nails in it, a bi-metal blade is the safer choice.
When should I replace a saw blade?
Replace it when the cut starts to judder, you have to push the tool harder, burn marks appear or the blade begins to bend. A dull blade overheats the material and strains the motor. Changing it in time also gives a cleaner cut.
Which blade stops laminate or veneered board from chipping?
Choose a fine-toothed blade made for laminate or panels, ideally with ground teeth. With a jigsaw or a hand-held circular saw, place the good face of the board downwards, because the blade cuts on the upstroke. Carbide-tipped teeth stay sharp longer in these materials.
