Routers

Routers

Routers connect a local network to the internet and share that connection between devices, so homes, offices and businesses all need one. Our range includes TELTONIKA, TP-LINK, UBIQUITI and JUNIPER equipment, from Wi-Fi routers to industrial and enterprise network solutions.

How to choose a router

Purpose. Start by deciding where the router will work. For a home or small office, a Wi-Fi router with a wired internet input is usually enough. If there is no wired connection, or you need a backup line, look for a model that works with a mobile SIM card. Equipment for large company and operator networks is managed differently from consumer models.

Wireless speed. Manufacturers quote the maximum theoretical speed, not what you will get day to day. Our range includes a model with a maximum WLAN rate of 2882 Mbit/s and a first-band rate of 688 Mbit/s. Real speed depends on distance, walls and the capabilities of your devices, so treat the figure as an upper limit.

Wired ports. Computers, TVs, security cameras and network storage are better connected by cable. Our range includes a model with 4 Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) ports. Count how many wired devices you will have and leave some spare, since missing ports can be added later with a switch.

Antennas. External antennas can be turned to aim the signal and, if needed, replaced with others. Our range includes a model with 4 external antennas. More antennas generally help a router serve several devices at once, but the result also depends on the specific model.

Management and security. Check whether the manufacturer provides firmware updates, and whether the router supports VPN, firewall rules and a separate guest network. For business users these features often matter more than peak Wi-Fi speed.

Router brands we carry

  • TELTONIKA: a Lithuanian company known for industrial cellular routers used in transport, energy and remote monitoring systems.
  • TP-LINK: makes Wi-Fi routers for homes and small offices, which is why it is often chosen for a first or simple network.
  • UBIQUITI: known for its UniFi and EdgeRouter lines, aimed at small businesses and advanced users who want centralised management.
  • JUNIPER: builds network equipment for operators and large enterprises, running the Junos OS operating system.

Also in our range: ARDUINO.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a router and a switch?

A router joins different networks, for example your home network and the internet, and directs the traffic between them. A switch only connects devices within the same network by cable. A home Wi-Fi router often has several LAN ports built in, so it performs both roles.

Does a router need a SIM card?

No, a SIM card is only needed when your internet comes over a mobile network. With a wired connection, a cable is enough. Models with a SIM slot are useful where no cable is available, or as a backup connection.

How many antennas should a router have?

There is no single right number, because it also depends on the bands your devices use and where the router is placed. Our range includes a model with 4 external antennas. In a larger flat or house, moving the router to a better spot often helps more than an extra antenna.

Does a 2882 Mbit/s Wi-Fi rate mean my internet will be that fast?

No. That figure is the maximum theoretical wireless rate between the router and a device, while your internet speed is limited by your plan. Real-world speeds are almost always lower, because distance, obstacles and interference from other networks reduce them.
