Power distribution units (PDUs) supply mains power to servers, network equipment and other devices inside a server or network rack. Our range includes basic outlet strips, metered, monitored and remotely switched models, in horizontal 1U and vertical 0U formats. Products from LANBERG, BACHMANN, LANVIEW and EFB-ELEKTRONIK are the most common.
How to choose a power distribution unit
Mounting style. A 1U unit fits horizontally in a 19-inch rack and takes up one rack unit, so it suits racks with spare space. A 0U unit mounts vertically along the side of the rack and uses no space meant for equipment. Most of our models are 1U, but 0U units are available too.
Outlet type and number. Servers and network equipment usually connect through C13 outlets, while more powerful devices use C19. Our range includes C13, mixed C13 and C19, and household Type F (Schuko) outlets, with some Type G and Type L units as well. Units with 8 outlets are the most common, but there are also 10, 12 and 24 outlet versions. It is worth leaving a few outlets free for future equipment.
Current and voltage. The maximum current of the unit must exceed the combined load of everything plugged into it, with some margin. Among our models 16 A is the most common, with 10, 13, 15, 20 and 32 A versions also available. Most units are rated for 230 V, some accept a wider range such as 100-240 V, and a few are made for a 400 V supply.
PDU type. A basic PDU simply distributes power. Metered and monitored models show the load, and switched models let you turn individual outlets on and off remotely, which helps when a device needs a restart and you cannot get to the server room. A small network cabinet usually needs nothing more than a basic unit.
Cable length. A 3 m cable is the most common in our range, with 1.8 m, 2 m and 5 m options as well. Measure the distance to the wall socket or UPS along the actual cable route through the rack, because a cable that is too short forces you to use an extension lead.
