How to choose a router antenna
Connection type and frequencies. Wi-Fi antennas work on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, while mobile antennas must cover the LTE or 5G frequencies your operator uses. A dual-band Wi-Fi router needs a dual-band antenna, otherwise one band will stay weak.
Connector. The most common connectors are SMA, RP-SMA and N-type, and you also need to know whether you want a plug or a socket. SMA and RP-SMA look almost identical but are not compatible, so check the connector on your router first.
Indoor or outdoor antenna. Outdoor antennas must withstand rain and temperature swings, and are usually fixed to a mast or a wall. A directional antenna sends the signal in one direction and suits a link to a distant tower or building, while an omnidirectional one covers the space around it.
MIMO and number of antennas. Many modern routers use several antennas at once, so LTE or 5G often needs two antennas or one MIMO antenna with two cables. The number of antennas should match the number of connectors on the router.
Cable length. The longer the coaxial cable, the more signal is lost, especially on the 5 GHz and 5G bands. Keep the distance between antenna and router as short as you can, and for longer runs choose a thicker low-loss cable.

How do I choose an antenna for my router?
First find out which connector your router has (most often SMA, RP-SMA or N-type) and which connection it uses: Wi-Fi or LTE/5G. Then pick the antenna type for the location: indoor, outdoor, directional or omnidirectional. The number of antennas should match the router's connectors.
Does a bigger antenna always give a stronger signal?
No, size alone does not improve the signal. Antenna gain (dBi), supported frequency bands and directionality matter more. A higher-gain antenna usually narrows the beam, so it has to be aimed more precisely.
What is the difference between SMA and RP-SMA connectors?
They look similar, but RP-SMA has the inner contact reversed, so SMA and RP-SMA do not connect to each other. If the connectors do not match, you need the right adapter or cable. Check the connector on your router before buying.
Can I connect an external antenna to an LTE router?
