4G/5G routers and modems

4G/5G routers and modems

4G/5G routers and modems provide internet access over the mobile network: for homes and offices without a fixed line, backup connections, temporary sites and industrial locations. Our range has over 400 models, including fixed routers, portable Wi-Fi hotspots and modems. Leading brands include Teltonika, TP-Link, Cradlepoint, ZTE and Huawei.

How to choose a 4G or 5G router

Network generation. 4G is enough for most homes and small offices when the signal is good. 5G is worth choosing when your address has 5G coverage and you need higher speeds or lower latency. Our range includes both 4G and 5G models, so check your operator's coverage map first.

Power and where it will be used. Portable devices run on a battery, while fixed routers use a DC or AC adapter. Some models can be powered over the Ethernet cable (PoE), which helps where there is no socket nearby, such as on a wall or pole. A few can run from USB.

Ports and Wi-Fi. LAN ports range from none (Wi-Fi only) to five, and four is common. Many models have Gigabit Ethernet ports, while Fast Ethernet caps speed at 100 Mbit/s, which can become a bottleneck on a fast 5G connection. A few models offer 2.5 or 10 Gigabit Ethernet. For Wi-Fi, dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) is the most common, simpler devices use 2.4 GHz only, and a handful of tri-band models add 6 GHz.

Antennas. Models with external antennas let you aim the antenna towards a better signal, and often swap it or attach a different one, which helps in areas with weak coverage. Internal antennas look tidier and suit places where the signal is already stable. Our range includes external, internal and combined designs.

Purpose and management. For a home, a simple setup interface is usually enough. Business and industrial users should look for VPN, failover to a backup SIM, remote management and suitability for harsher conditions, including higher humidity.

Also in our range: D-Link, Cudy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a 4G/5G router and a modem?

A router has a SIM slot and creates a local network over Wi-Fi and LAN ports, so several devices can share the connection. A modem only connects to the mobile network and is usually plugged into a single computer or another router.

Can a 4G/5G router replace fixed broadband?

Yes, if your location has a good mobile signal and your operator's plan does not limit data. Speed depends on coverage, network load and the antenna, so in weak-signal areas it is worth choosing a model with external antennas.

What SIM card does a 4G/5G router need?

It needs a SIM card with a data plan that works on your operator's network. Most routers take a nano-SIM, and some have two slots so the connection can switch to a backup operator. Before buying, check that the device supports your operator's frequency bands.

Is 5G worth it if 4G already works?

Only if your location has 5G coverage and 4G speeds no longer meet your needs. Otherwise a 5G router will simply use the 4G network and bring no benefit. Make sure the LAN ports and Wi-Fi will not hold back the higher speed too, so look for Gigabit Ethernet or faster.
