Touchscreen monitors

Touchscreen monitors

Touchscreen monitors are operated by touch, which is why they are used at tills, self-service kiosks, factory terminals, classrooms and offices. Our range has over 280 models, from small 1024 x 768 screens to 4K Ultra HD monitors, with brands such as IIYAMA, Elo, HANNSPREE, ViewSonic and Philips.

How to choose a touchscreen monitor

Touch technology. A capacitive screen works like a tablet: it responds to a light touch and usually supports several touch points at once. A resistive screen responds to pressure, so it can be used with gloves or a stylus, which helps in workshops and warehouses.

Size and resolution. Most models in our range are Full HD (1920 x 1080), and there are also 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160), 1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768 screens. A till or kiosk often needs only a lower resolution, while documents, graphics and several open windows are better served by Full HD or 4K.

Aspect ratio and panel. Widescreen 16:9 models suit general work and video, while 5:4 and 4:3 screens are often used with till software written for a squarer picture. An IPS panel keeps its colours when viewed from the side, and many of our models list 178° viewing angles; VA and TN panels are available too.

Connections. Most models have at least one HDMI port, but some have none, so check which video output your computer or till hardware offers first. The touch signal usually needs a separate USB cable, so make sure you have a free USB port.

Mounting and environment. A screen that is touched all day needs a firm stand or a VESA mount, and the tilt angle should suit whether you will stand or sit at it. In dusty or damp places, choose a model whose protection the manufacturer clearly states.

Frequently asked questions about touchscreen monitors

What is the difference between a capacitive and a resistive touchscreen monitor?

A capacitive screen responds to the touch of skin and usually supports several touch points at once, so it feels like a tablet. A resistive screen responds to pressure, so it also works with gloves or a stylus. Capacitive screens are the usual choice for offices and public spaces, resistive ones for workshops and warehouses.

Which touchscreen monitor should I choose for a till?

A till usually needs a medium-sized screen with a 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 resolution, if the till software calls for it. A firm stand, a manufacturer's statement that the monitor suits long daily use, and compatibility with your till hardware matter more than resolution. Our range includes both 4:3 and 5:4 models.

Will a touchscreen monitor work with my computer?

Usually yes, provided the computer has a suitable video output and a free USB port. A touchscreen monitor is normally connected with two cables: one carries the picture, the other the touch signal. Recent versions of Windows often recognise the touch input automatically, but for other systems it is worth checking the manufacturer's description.

Is a 4K touchscreen monitor worth it?

A 4K screen (3840 x 2160) is worth it when you work with fine detail, drawings or several windows at once. Full HD is enough for most office and till tasks. On a smaller screen, 4K elements become tiny and hard to tap with a finger, so the higher resolution pays off only on a screen of sufficient size.
