HDMI adapters connect equipment whose HDMI ports differ in size or gender. Our range includes adapters between standard, mini and micro HDMI, as well as couplers for extending a cable. They suit anyone linking a laptop, camera, tablet or TV to a screen. We stock over 160 models, including Delock, InLine, Wentronic and Good Connections.
How to choose an HDMI adapter
Connector size. Start by checking which port each device has. Standard HDMI A appears on TVs and monitors, while mini HDMI (type C) and micro HDMI (type D) are more common on cameras, tablets and smaller video equipment. Our range includes adapters with all three sizes.
Male or female. A male plug only fits into a female socket, so you need to know the gender at both ends. A male-to-female adapter fits onto a device port or the end of a cable, while an adapter with two sockets joins two cables that both end in plugs. Our range has both plugs and sockets, though many adapters have a socket on the second side.
HDMI version and resolution. A simple adapter does not change the picture, but it can limit what passes through. If you want 4K at 60 Hz, look for a model that states HDMI 2.0 or newer, because older adapters often stop at 30 Hz. For a Full HD monitor or projector, a simpler model is usually enough.
Contact plating and housing. Many adapters in our range have gold-plated contacts, and some are nickel-plated. Gold does not improve a digital picture, but it does not oxidise, which helps if you plug and unplug often. For a laptop, a short flexible adapter with a lead is kinder to the port than a rigid block hanging from it.

HDMI adapter FAQ
What is the difference between HDMI, mini HDMI and micro HDMI?
The main difference is physical size: standard HDMI (type A) is the largest, mini HDMI (type C) is smaller and micro HDMI (type D) is the smallest. All carry an HDMI signal, but the connectors do not fit into each other, so you need an adapter or a matching cable to link devices with different ports.
Does an HDMI adapter reduce picture quality?
A simple adapter that only changes the connector shape does not reduce picture quality, provided it supports the HDMI version you use. An older or poorly made model can limit the resolution or refresh rate, so check the stated specifications before buying.
How do I know whether I need a male or female adapter?
Look at both connection points: a plug always goes into a socket. If your device has a socket and your cable has a plug of a different size, you need an adapter with a socket on one side and a plug on the other. Two cables that both end in plugs are joined by an adapter with two sockets.
Do I need gold-plated contacts?
No, an adapter with nickel-plated contacts will also work. Gold does not oxidise, so it keeps a stable connection for longer, especially if you connect and disconnect often. It does not improve the quality of a digital picture.
