This category covers USB cables and adapters for connecting printers, external drives, monitors, phones and other devices to a computer. Our range includes over 80 models with USB-A, USB-C, micro-USB and other connectors, with products from DELOCK, GOOBAY, StarTech.com and shiverpeaks among others.
How to choose a USB cable or adapter
Connector types. Start by checking both ends of the cable. USB-A is the rectangular connector found on computers and chargers, USB-C is smaller and reversible, and micro-USB still appears on older devices. If the ends do not match your equipment, you need a cable with different ends or an adapter.
Speed and USB standard. USB 2.0 transfers data at up to 480 Mbit/s, USB 3.2 Gen 1 at up to 5 Gbit/s and Gen 2 at up to 10 Gbit/s. For an external SSD or copying large files, choose at least a USB 3 cable. A mouse or keyboard works perfectly well with USB 2.0.
Length. The longer the cable, the greater the risk of signal loss, especially with fast USB 3 cables. For everyday use, 1 or 2 m is usually enough. For longer distances, a dedicated extension cable is the better option.
Power and video. USB-C cables differ from one another: not all carry a video signal or charge a laptop quickly. If you are connecting a monitor or charging a laptop, check that the description states video support and the maximum power in watts.
Cable or adapter. A cable is enough when you know both connectors and can find one with the right ends. An adapter is needed when, for example, a laptop with only USB-C ports must connect to an older USB-A device. Every adapter adds one more connection point, so for daily use a cable with the correct ends is often more convenient.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between USB-A and USB-C?
USB-A is the older rectangular connector that fits only one way round, while USB-C is smaller and can be plugged in either way up. USB-C is used on newer phones, laptops and monitors. The shape of the connector does not tell you the speed, which depends on the cable's standard.
Are all USB-C cables the same?
No, USB-C cables can differ in data speed, maximum power and video support. A basic cable may only charge a phone and transfer data slowly. If you need to connect a monitor or charge a laptop quickly, look for a model that states these features clearly.
Will a USB 3.0 cable work with a USB 2.0 port?
Yes, a USB 3.0 cable works with a USB 2.0 port because the standards are backward compatible. The slower of the two devices limits the speed, so you will only get USB 2.0 performance.
When do I need an adapter instead of a cable?
You need an adapter when the connectors on your devices do not match and you do not have a cable with the right ends. A common case is a new laptop with only USB-C ports and a printer, flash drive or mouse that uses USB-A. If you will make that connection often, a cable with both required ends is usually the neater solution.
