DisplayPort cables

DisplayPort cables connect a monitor to a computer, laptop, graphics card or docking station. Our range has over 1,300 cables: DisplayPort to DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, USB-C and cables with an HDMI end. The best-represented brands are DELOCK, ROLINE, INLINE and LINDY.

How to choose a DisplayPort cable

Standard version. Our range runs from DisplayPort 1.1 to 2.1, with 1.2 and 1.4 the most common. Version 1.2 is enough for 4K at 60 Hz, while higher refresh rates or 8K call for 1.4. Version 2.1 offers the most bandwidth, but you will only benefit with a matching monitor and graphics card.

Resolution and refresh rate. Match the cable to your monitor: our cables are listed for 60, 120, 144, 165 and 240 Hz and for resolutions up to 7680 x 4320 pixels, with some going higher. Gamers should look at refresh rate first, whereas 60 Hz is usually enough for office work.

Connector types. DisplayPort to DisplayPort is the most common, but there are also Mini DisplayPort, USB-C and HDMI-ended cables. A USB-C cable only works if the port on your device supports video output. Cables with an HDMI end usually carry the signal one way only, from a DisplayPort source to an HDMI display.

Length and contact plating. The longer the cable, the harder it is to keep high bandwidth stable, so for high refresh rates or resolutions choose the shortest length that suits your desk. Many of our cables have gold-plated contacts and some are nickel-plated: plating protects against oxidation but does not change picture quality.

Frequently asked questions

Does a DisplayPort 1.4 cable support 4K at 144 Hz?

Yes, the DisplayPort 1.4 standard can carry 4K at 144 Hz, usually with Display Stream Compression (DSC). It only works if both the monitor and the graphics card support that mode.

What is the difference between DisplayPort 2.1 and 1.4?

DisplayPort 2.1 has much higher bandwidth, up to 80 Gbit/s compared with 32.4 Gbit/s for 1.4. That matters for very high resolutions or refresh rates. Older devices will work with a 2.1 cable but will not gain anything from it.

Can I connect a DisplayPort output to an HDMI monitor?

Yes, using a cable or adapter with a DisplayPort end and an HDMI end. The signal normally runs from the DisplayPort source to the HDMI display. The maximum resolution and refresh rate are then limited by the HDMI version your monitor supports.

What length of DisplayPort cable should I buy?

For most desks, 1 to 2 metres is enough. Longer passive cables may not support the highest resolutions and refresh rates, so for a demanding monitor choose a shorter cable or one specified for those modes.
