Numeric keypads

Numeric keypads

Numeric keypads are separate number blocks that you connect to a laptop or desktop PC to enter figures faster. Our range has over 40 models: wired USB and wireless keypads, plus programmable controllers for gaming or 3D work. You will find products from Apple, Razer, Logitech, R-Go Tools and Cherry.

How to choose a numeric keypad

Connection type. Most keypads in our range are wired USB models, which work straight away with no pairing or charging. Wireless models connect through an RF receiver or Bluetooth. Bluetooth is handy when you are short of free USB ports, while an RF receiver will take up one.

Power. Wired keypads draw power over USB, so there is nothing to maintain. Wireless ones usually run on batteries, which will need replacing from time to time. If you use the keypad every day, a wired model avoids that chore.

Compatibility. Many models list Windows support, and some name Windows 10 and Windows 11 specifically. Some keypads are made for laptops, others are universal. If you use a Mac, check that the manufacturer states macOS compatibility before you buy.

Cable length. Cables on wired models run from 1 to 1.75 m, and 1.5 m is the most common. If the port is at the back of the PC or under the desk, choose a longer cable. A shorter one is enough next to a laptop.

Purpose. A standard numeric keypad is meant for figures, spreadsheets and accounting software. Programmable key blocks suit gaming, and 3D controllers are made for modelling software. These groups look similar but do different jobs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a numeric keypad used for?

It is used by anyone who types many numbers: accountants, warehouse staff, spreadsheet users. Many laptops have no number block, so a separate keypad speeds up the work and reduces typing errors.

Can I use a numeric keypad with a laptop?

Yes, as long as the laptop has a free USB port or Bluetooth. A wired model simply plugs in, while a wireless one pairs through a receiver or Bluetooth. Check that the listing names your operating system.

What is the difference between a wired and a wireless numeric keypad?

A wired keypad draws power over USB and works without pairing. A wireless one has no cable to tie it to the computer, so you can place it wherever suits you, but it needs batteries and sometimes a free USB port for the receiver. If you only use the keypad now and then, wireless is often more convenient.

Does a numeric keypad work with a Mac?

Many standard number blocks work with macOS, but some extra keys may not function. The safest choice is a model whose description states Mac compatibility. Apple accessories are made for these computers.
