Mechanical keyboards

This category covers mechanical keyboards in full-size, tenkeyless, 75% and 65% layouts for gaming, office work and everyday typing. Over 200 models come from Keychron, Cherry, Logitech, Akko and other makers. You will find wired, wireless and dual-mode boards.

How to choose a mechanical keyboard

Switches. Linear switches press down smoothly and quietly, tactile ones give a noticeable bump partway through the press, and clicky ones add an audible click. Linear or tactile switches are the usual choice in shared offices, while linear is popular for gaming. If you are unsure, pick a hot-swap model so you can try other switches later.

Size. Our range includes full-size (100%) keyboards with a number pad, tenkeyless (80-87%), 96%, 75%, 65% and mini models. A number pad helps with spreadsheets and data entry, while a smaller board leaves more desk space for the mouse.

Connection. A wired USB keyboard needs no charging and has no wireless delay. Wireless models connect by Bluetooth or a USB receiver, and some also work with a cable. If you switch between a laptop and a tablet, choose a model that can remember several devices.

Layout and language. Our range includes German, US English and UK English layouts. Check whether you need Lithuanian letters before buying, as they are usually not printed on the keys and are typed by switching the keyboard language in the operating system.

Intended use. Gamers should look for fast switches, programmable keys and lighting. If you type a lot, a stable case and a comfortable key height matter more, and Mac or Windows users should check that the keycaps carry markings for their system.

Mechanical keyboard FAQ

How is a mechanical keyboard different from a normal one?

A mechanical keyboard has a separate mechanical switch under each key, while most ordinary keyboards use a rubber membrane. This gives a more precise keypress, and a faulty switch or keycap can often be replaced on its own. Mechanical boards are usually heavier and a little louder.

Which switch should I choose for office work?

Linear or tactile switches are the usual choice for the office, as they are quieter than clicky ones. If you sit close to colleagues, pick a switch described as quiet. Clicky switches suit people who enjoy loud feedback.

Is a wireless mechanical keyboard suitable for gaming?

A wireless mechanical keyboard can work well for gaming if it connects through a USB receiver, as this usually has less delay than Bluetooth. Charge the battery beforehand or choose a model that can also be used with a cable. For competitive play, many players still prefer a wired keyboard.

What does a hot-swap keyboard mean?

A hot-swap keyboard lets you change switches without soldering: you pull the old ones out and push new ones in. This lets you try a different feel without replacing the whole keyboard. Check which switch types a particular model supports before buying.
