How to choose a portable or smart projector
Resolution. For films, games and text, aim for a true 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, and Full HD is what most models in our range offer. 720p, WXGA (1280x800) or 800x480 is enough for a small picture and simple content. A projector that accepts a 4K signal does not necessarily have a 4K panel.
Projection technology. Our range includes LCD, DLP and LED models. DLP projectors generally deliver good contrast, while LCD models often offer rich colours. Some people notice a rainbow effect on DLP images, so if you are sensitive to it, it is worth testing first. LED is a light source that, unlike a traditional lamp, does not need replacing.
Brightness and room. Brightness, given in ANSI lumens, decides whether the picture stays visible in a lit room. A dark room and evening viewing need only modest brightness, while daylight calls for a much brighter projector and blackout curtains. Portable models are usually less bright than fixed home cinema projectors.
Power and light source. Most models in our range run on mains power, but some have a built-in battery or are powered over USB. If you plan to take the projector into the garden or on business trips, choose one with a battery. The light source life of many models is 30,000 hours, and some are rated at 20,000 or 6,000 hours.
Sound and smart features. Built-in speakers in our range range from 2 to 10 W. Weaker speakers are fine for speech, but for films it is worth connecting an external speaker. On smart models, check autofocus, keystone correction and whether apps run directly or need a separate streaming stick.

What is the difference between a portable and a smart projector?
A portable projector is first of all small and easy to carry, while a smart projector has an operating system, Wi-Fi and apps, so you do not need to play content from another device. Many models combine both. When choosing, decide whether a battery or built-in apps matter more to you.
Do I need a 1080p projector for films?
Not always, but on a larger screen 1080p looks sharper and individual pixels are less visible. 720p is often enough for a small picture viewed up close. For text, spreadsheets and presentations, Full HD is the better choice.
Can I use a projector during the day?
