Speakers

Speakers

This category contains computer speakers, portable Bluetooth speakers and higher-output audio units for the office or home. Our range includes over 80 models, with brands such as JBL, Philips, Creative, Sony and Anker.

Options run from small desktop speakers beside a monitor to louder models for a meeting room or an event.

How to choose speakers

Where you will use them. Decide where the speaker will sit first. Small stereo speakers are enough on a desk, while a meeting room or a garden calls for a louder, usually portable model with more power.

Wired or wireless. Our range includes wired-only, wireless-only and dual models that can be connected either way. A cable gives a stable sound without delay, a wireless speaker can go anywhere and play from your phone, and a dual model is handy if you will use both methods.

RMS power. RMS shows continuous output rather than a short-lived peak figure, so it is the fairer way to compare models. Speakers in our range run from 2.5 W to 120 W: a few watts is enough for listening at a desk, a few tens of watts suit a room, and 60 W or more is meant for larger spaces.

Bluetooth version. The Bluetooth speakers we stock range from version 4.2 to 5.4. Newer versions generally give a steadier connection and use less energy, but sound quality also depends on the supported codecs and on your phone or computer.

Power and extras. A portable speaker needs a good battery and some protection against water and dust, whereas a desktop one is more about connections such as a 3.5 mm jack or USB. If you will take calls on it, check that it has a microphone.

Frequently asked questions

Which speaker should I choose for an office?

For a single desk, small wired stereo speakers are enough, since they need no charging and add no audio delay. If several people will use the speaker in meetings, choose a model with higher RMS power, Bluetooth and a microphone so it can handle phone and video calls.

Does a Bluetooth speaker work without the internet?

Yes, a Bluetooth speaker pairs directly with your phone or computer, so the connection itself needs no internet. You only need it when streaming music from an online service. Files stored on the device can be played offline.

How many watts should a speaker have?

A few watts of RMS power is enough for listening at a desk, a few tens of watts suit a room, and 60 W or more makes sense for loud music in a large space. Compare RMS rather than peak power, because RMS shows what the speaker can sustain. Speakers in our range span from 2.5 W to 120 W.

Can a speaker be connected by both cable and Bluetooth?

Yes, if the model is listed as both wired and wireless. Our range includes such speakers: they play from a phone over Bluetooth and connect to a computer or television by cable. Check which connections a specific speaker has before you buy.
