Conference microphones

Conference microphones

Conference microphones are made for remote meetings and meeting rooms: our range includes USB speakerphones, tabletop microphones, expansion microphones and microphone and speaker bundles. We stock over 50 models, including Logitech, Yealink, HP Poly, Cisco and Yamaha.

The choice runs from simple devices for a single desk to systems for professional meeting rooms.

How to choose a conference microphone

Room size. A small room is usually fine with one tabletop unit, while a long boardroom table needs several microphones. Manufacturers state the pickup range in metres, so compare it with the length of your table and the number of participants.

Connection and compatibility. Most devices of this type connect over USB, and some also work over Bluetooth. Check that the model works with the software you use, such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and that your computer has the right port.

Microphone type. A round unit placed in the middle of the table picks up everyone sitting around it. Expansion microphones help on a longer table, while ceiling or wall-mounted equipment keeps the table clear but needs installing.

Echo cancellation and speaker. Rooms with glass surfaces and bare walls cause more echo than a small office, so choose a model with echo and noise cancellation. If the device has no built-in speaker, you will need separate speakers.

Room to expand. If the number of meeting participants is likely to grow, pick a system that accepts extra microphones from the same manufacturer. That way you will not have to replace the whole unit.

Conference microphone FAQ

How is a conference microphone different from a regular one?

A conference microphone is designed to pick up several voices from different positions around a table. A regular microphone is meant for a single speaker, so people sitting further away sound quiet and unclear. Conference models also often include echo cancellation.

How many microphones does a meeting room need?

A small room with a few participants usually needs just one tabletop unit. A long table needs two or more microphones so that people at the far end are heard clearly. The manufacturer states the exact pickup range for each model.

Can I connect a conference microphone to a laptop?

Yes, most USB conference microphones work with a laptop without any extra equipment. The computer recognises the device as an audio device, and you simply select it as the microphone and speaker in your software. Before buying, check that your laptop has a suitable port.

Should I choose a speakerphone or just a microphone?

For a small room or a single desk, a device combining microphone and speaker is usually the easier choice because it connects in one step. A microphone on its own makes sense when the room already has a sound system. The microphones are then connected to the existing equipment.
