How to choose a phone charger or power bank
Power and charging speed. Check which fast-charging standard your phone supports (usually USB Power Delivery) and choose a charger rated at least as high in watts. A more powerful charger does not harm the phone, because it only draws as much as it can accept.
Connectors and cable. Most newer phones charge over USB-C, while older iPhone models use Lightning. Check which port your phone has and whether a cable is included, as not every charger comes with one. A longer cable is handy for charging in bed, a shorter one is easier to pack.
Power bank capacity. Capacity is measured in mAh. Because of conversion losses you get roughly 60-70% of the stated figure, so a 10,000 mAh power bank will typically charge a phone fully about twice. If you also charge a tablet, choose a larger capacity.
Size and weight. A lighter power bank suits daily carrying in a pocket, while a higher-capacity, heavier one is better for trips and camping. If you fly, note that most airlines allow power banks of up to 100 Wh in the cabin, and only in hand luggage.
Ports and protection. A model with two ports lets you charge a phone and earbuds at the same time. Look for the CE mark and protection against overcharging and short circuits.

What power bank capacity do I need?
For a normal day out, 10,000 mAh is usually enough. That gives about two full charges for most phones, since some energy is lost in the process. If you charge several devices or spend days away from a socket, choose 20,000 mAh or more.
Can I charge my phone with a more powerful charger?
Yes. The phone decides how much current to accept, so a higher-wattage charger will not damage it. It will only charge faster if the phone supports the matching fast-charging standard and the cable can handle it.
Can I take a power bank on a plane?
Usually yes, but only in hand luggage, never in checked baggage. Most airlines allow power banks up to 100 Wh, which is roughly 27,000 mAh. Check your airline's own rules before you fly.
Does every USB-C cable support fast charging?
No. Cheaper USB-C cables may only support slow charging or data transfer and cannot carry higher power. For fast charging, choose a cable whose description states the wattage it supports.
