How to choose a charging cable
Connectors. Check the plug on each end first: one goes into the charger or computer, the other into your device. Our range includes USB-C, USB-A, Lightning and Micro-USB B connectors, along with a few special ones such as Surface Connect. Recent iPhones use USB-C, while older ones need Lightning. Micro-USB is still found on older phones, power banks and small accessories.
Charging power. Fast charging depends on the charger, the cable and the device working together, so the cable can be the limiting link. For a phone, a USB-C cable that supports USB Power Delivery is a sensible choice. For a laptop, look for a cable rated for 60 W or 100 W, because a thin phone cable may charge it very slowly or not at all.
Data speed. Many cables are made mainly for charging and carry data at USB 2.0 speed. That is fine for copying photos but slow for large backups. If you want to move big files or connect a display, check that the description mentions data transfer or video output.
Length and build. One metre suits a desk or a power bank, while two metres is more comfortable on a sofa or in bed. Longer cables lose a little more power, so choose a thicker one for high-wattage charging. Braided sheathing and reinforced connector ends usually survive daily bending better than plain PVC.

Frequently asked questions
Which cable is best for fast charging?
The best choice is a cable that supports the same fast-charging standard as your charger and phone, usually USB Power Delivery over USB-C. The cable must also be rated for enough power, because a basic model can limit charging speed. Look for the power rating in the product description.
Can I charge a laptop with a phone charging cable?
Only if it is a USB-C cable rated for enough power and your charger can supply it. A laptop often needs more power than a basic phone cable can carry. In that case charging is slow or does not start at all.
Do new iPhones need a Lightning cable?
No, the iPhone 15 and later models use USB-C, so a USB-C cable is enough. Earlier iPhones need a Lightning cable. It is best to choose one with Apple MFi certification, as it is made to work reliably with the device.
Does a longer cable charge more slowly?
It can, slightly, because resistance grows with length, especially at high power. For everyday phone charging, the difference between a 1 m and a 2 m cable is usually not noticeable if the cable is well made.
