How to choose an industrial or wet and dry vacuum
Power source. A mains-powered vacuum runs without breaks and usually offers more suction, which suits workshops and long cleaning jobs. A cordless model is handy where there is no socket, such as on a building site, in a garden shed or in a car. Our range includes both types. With a cordless model, check that the battery and charger are included.
Tank size and material. A smaller tank is often enough for a car or a small garage, while renovation work is easier with a larger one because you empty it less often. A stainless steel tank takes knocks better, while a plastic one is lighter to carry.
Filter and dust class. For plaster, concrete or wood dust, choose a model with a fine dust filter and a stated dust class (L, M or H). The more hazardous the dust, the higher the class you need. When vacuuming liquids, the filter often has to be swapped for a foam filter or removed, so check the manufacturer's instructions.
Suction power. Do not rely on motor wattage alone: both suction and airflow matter. Heavier debris such as stone chips or damp sand needs stronger suction than everyday dust.
Extra features. A power tool socket with automatic start lets you collect dust while you drill or sand. A blowing function, a hose of sufficient length and suitable nozzles for floors, tight corners and liquids are also worth checking.

How is a wet and dry vacuum different from a normal vacuum cleaner?
A wet and dry vacuum can pick up liquids as well as dry dust. It usually has a moisture-resistant tank and a larger capacity than a household vacuum. It also copes with coarser debris such as sawdust or mortar residue.
Can an industrial vacuum pick up water?
Yes, provided the model is marked for wet and dry use. Such a vacuum has overflow protection, and the filter often has to be changed or removed before you pick up liquid. A dry-only industrial vacuum should not be used for water, as it can be damaged.
Is a cordless industrial vacuum enough?
A cordless model is enough for short and medium jobs, especially where there is no socket or a cable would get in the way. For long cleaning sessions or large amounts of dust, a mains-powered vacuum is better because its running time is not limited by battery capacity. If you already own batteries from a particular system, it makes sense to choose a vacuum that uses them.
Can any vacuum be used for building dust?
