Type of machine. A floor cleaner with a rotating brush roll picks up debris and washes hard floors such as tiles or laminate in a single pass. A carpet washer sprays cleaning solution into the fabric and extracts the dirty water, so it suits stains on carpets, sofas and car seats.
Tank capacity. The clean water tank decides how much floor you can cover before refilling. A small flat needs less, while a large house or a family with a dog is easier to manage with a bigger tank. The dirty water tank should have a wide opening so it is simple to empty and rinse.
Hair and self-cleaning. Long hair and pet fur wrap around the brush roll quickly. Choose a model with a roll that comes out easily or a self-cleaning cycle, so you do not have to wash everything by hand after each clean. Many TINECO floor cleaners have such a cycle.
Cord, battery and noise. A cordless model is handier for stairs and several rooms but runs for a limited time, while a corded one suits longer cleaning sessions. How is a floor cleaner different from an ordinary vacuum cleaner?
A floor cleaner not only picks up dirt but also washes the surface with clean water and detergent. The dirty water goes into a separate tank, so you do not need to scrub the floor with a mop. An ordinary vacuum is designed only for dry dust and small debris.
Can I clean carpets with a floor cleaner?
Short-pile rugs can often be cleaned this way, as long as the manufacturer does not forbid it. Thick or long-pile carpets are better treated with a carpet washer, which extracts water more deeply so the carpet dries sooner. Test a hidden spot first to check that the dye does not run.
Is a floor cleaner safe for parquet and laminate?
Often it is, but only if the floor has a well-sealed finish. Unfinished parquet and laminate with damaged joints can swell when exposed to moisture. Check the recommendations of both the floor and the cleaner manufacturer, and choose a mode that uses less water.
Can I use ordinary household detergent?
No, it is better to use the cleaning solution the manufacturer recommends. Most of these machines are not designed for strongly foaming products, because foam can enter the suction path and disrupt operation. An unsuitable or overly concentrated liquid can also wear out the brush roll and seals faster.
