Computer speakers are desktop audio systems for music, films, games and video calls at a PC or laptop. Our range has over 200 models, from small USB-powered speakers to larger systems that run from a mains socket. You will find products from Edifier, Defender, Logitech and Creative.
How to choose computer speakers
Connection. Wired speakers connect through a 3.5 mm audio plug or USB and normally have no noticeable audio delay, which suits games and films. Our range includes wired-only models and speakers with Bluetooth, which can also be paired with a phone or tablet.
Power. Look at the RMS (continuous) power rather than the larger peak figure that some makers quote. Our range runs from 3 W to 60 W RMS. A few watts is enough for a desk and for speech, while 20 W or more is worth choosing if you want louder music or need to fill a bigger room.
Power source. USB-powered speakers need only one cable from the computer, but their output is usually modest. Speakers that plug into the mains can play louder and with more bass. Our range includes both types.
System type. A two-speaker stereo set (2.0) takes little space and covers everyday listening. If you miss low frequencies, choose a set with a separate subwoofer. Studio monitors are meant for music production and aim for accurate, uncoloured sound.
Controls. Many of our models have a rotary volume knob that is easy to find without looking. A headphone socket on the cabinet is handy when you want to switch quickly from speakers to headphones.

Frequently asked questions
What power should computer speakers have?
For a desk, where you sit about a metre away, a few watts of RMS power is usually enough. If the speakers need to fill a room or give films some weight, choose 20 W RMS or more. Compare the continuous RMS figure, not the peak power.
What is the difference between 2.0 and 2.1 speakers?
A 2.0 system has two speakers, while 2.1 adds a separate subwoofer. The subwoofer reproduces deeper bass but needs more space on or under the desk. If space is tight and you mostly listen to speech or quieter music, 2.0 is enough.
Can computer speakers connect over Bluetooth?
Yes, if the speakers have a Bluetooth module. They can then be paired wirelessly with a computer, phone or tablet. For games and video, a wired connection is usually more dependable because the sound stays in step with the picture.
Do computer speakers need a separate sound card?
No, most speakers work with the computer's ordinary audio output or a USB port. A separate sound card or external audio interface only helps if you want better sound quality or your computer lacks a suitable connector.
