Car speakers

Car speakers

Car speakers replace the factory speakers in the doors, rear shelf or dashboard, and suit drivers who find the standard sound system flat or thin. Our range has over 80 models: round and oval speakers in 2-way, 3-way and 4-way designs.

Most of them come from Pioneer, JVC and Kenwood.

How to choose car speakers

Size and shape. Start by finding out which speakers fit your car: the size depends on the model and the mounting position, so check the manufacturer's specification or ask a fitter. Most speakers in our range are round, and there are also some oval ones, which are often meant for the rear shelf.

Number of ways. A 2-way speaker combines a woofer and a tweeter, and it is the most common way to replace standard speakers. 3-way and 4-way models reproduce the midrange separately, which can give more detailed sound, but they often need more mounting depth. 2-way models make up most of our range.

Power. Look at the rated power first, because it shows the load a speaker can handle continuously, while peak power is only a short-term limit. In our range rated power is mostly between 20 and 50 W, and peak power runs from 150 to 400 W. The speakers should be matched to what your head unit or amplifier can deliver.

Compatibility and fitting. Most car speakers are rated at 4 ohms, as are most head units, but it is worth checking. Also look at the mounting depth, the position of the fixing holes and whether you will need adapter rings.

Brands we carry

  • Pioneer: a Japanese manufacturer best known for car audio, especially head units and speakers, and the largest brand in our range of car speakers.
  • JVC: a Japanese company widely known for car head units, so its speakers are often chosen together with equipment from the same brand.
  • Kenwood: a Japanese manufacturer that makes car head units, amplifiers and speakers, so a whole system can be built from one brand.

Also in our range: BLOW, AKAI, Kruger & Matz, JBL and Albrecht.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out what size of car speakers to buy?

The size is set by your car model and the speaker position: door, rear shelf or dashboard. Measure the diameter and mounting depth of your current speakers, or check the specification of your car's audio system. If you are unsure, ask a fitter before ordering.

What is the difference between rated power and peak power?

Rated power is what a speaker can handle continuously, while peak power is a short-term limit it tolerates only for moments. Compare models by rated power. In our range peak power is far higher than rated power, so a bigger peak figure does not mean louder or better sound.

What is the difference between 2-way and 3-way car speakers?

A 2-way speaker uses two drivers, usually a woofer and a tweeter, while a 3-way speaker adds a third driver so the midrange is reproduced separately. A 3-way system can sound more detailed, but the result also depends on the specific model and head unit. 2-way speakers are simpler and fit more easily.

Do new car speakers need an amplifier?

Not always. The built-in amplifier of many head units is enough for speakers with modest rated power, such as 20 or 30 W. A separate amplifier is worth considering if you want louder, cleaner sound or have chosen speakers with a higher rated power.
