This category covers multicookers, steamers and rice cookers for the home kitchen. They suit anyone who wants one appliance to boil, stew, steam or cook rice without constant attention. Our range includes appliances from CUCKOO, LAUBEN, TRISTAR, PHILIPS and TEFAL.
How to choose a multicooker or rice cooker
Type of appliance. A rice cooker is made mainly for rice and grains, so it is simpler to operate. A multicooker has more programmes, such as stewing, slow cooking, baking or making yoghurt. A steamer suits vegetables, fish and shellfish, while pressure models cook meat and pulses faster.
Capacity. A bowl of 2-3 litres is usually enough for one or two people, while a family more often needs 4-6 litres. The capacity of rice cookers is often given in cups of uncooked rice, and the cooked amount is considerably larger.
Power. Our range includes models from roughly 440 W up to 1100 W, with many sitting around 700-1000 W. Higher power heats food faster, but a small bowl often works well with a lower rating.
Bowl coating. A non-stick bowl is easy to clean but should not be scratched with metal utensils. A stainless steel bowl is more resistant to damage. Check before buying whether the bowl can go in the dishwasher.
Cord length. Cord length in our range runs from 0.8 to 2 m. If the appliance will stand far from a socket, choose a longer cord so you do not need an extension lead.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a multicooker and a rice cooker?
A multicooker has more programmes and can stew, bake or slow cook as well as boil. A rice cooker is designed mainly for rice and grains and is simpler to use. Some rice cookers have extra modes, so it is worth checking the programme list.
Can you cook more than vegetables in a steamer?
Yes, a steamer can prepare fish, chicken, shellfish, dumplings and eggs. Steaming needs no added fat, and food often stays juicier. Thicker cuts of meat need a longer cooking time.
What capacity of multicooker suits a family?
A bowl of 4-6 litres usually suits a family with children. One or two people can manage with 2-3 litres. If you often cook for guests or in large batches, choose a bigger bowl.
Is a pressure multicooker safe to use at home?
Yes, modern pressure cookers have a lid lock and a pressure release valve, so they are safe when used according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not fill the bowl above the maximum mark, and do not open the lid until the pressure has dropped.
