This category covers air fryers and oil deep fryers for the home kitchen, from small units for one or two people to large-capacity models for families. Our range includes over 190 models, among them Philips, Tefal, Princess, Xiaomi and Cosori.
How to choose an air fryer or deep fryer
Type. An air fryer cooks with circulating hot air, so food needs only a spoonful of oil or none at all. A traditional deep fryer gives the classic crisp crust, but it needs a large amount of oil that you then have to dispose of. If you cook often and want less fat and less smell in the kitchen, an air fryer is usually enough.
Capacity. One or two people can manage with a smaller basket, while a family is better off with a larger one. Common capacities in our range are 6, 6.2, 7.2, 8.3, 9 and 10 litres. A bigger appliance takes up more worktop space, so measure where it will stand before you buy.
Power and temperature. Power in our range runs from roughly 1400 to 2750 W, and a stronger unit generally heats up faster. The maximum temperature of many models is 200 °C, and some reach 230 or 240 °C. For meat, vegetables and chips, 200 °C is perfectly adequate.
Controls and programmes. Many of our models have touch controls, while some use rotary dials or buttons. A touch panel gives you preset programmes (often 6, 8 or 12 in our range), whereas dials are simpler if you just want to set a time and a temperature.
Cleaning. Check whether the basket and drawer are dishwasher safe and have a non-stick coating. That decides how much effort the washing-up takes after every use.

Frequently asked questions about fryers
What is the difference between an air fryer and an oil deep fryer?
An air fryer cooks food with circulating hot air and needs only a spoonful of oil, or none. A deep fryer submerges food in heated oil, so the taste and texture are closer to traditional deep frying. An air fryer is usually easier to clean and to use every day.
What capacity of fryer suits a family?
A family usually needs about 6 litres or more. Our range includes models of 8.3, 9 and 10 litres, whose larger baskets let you cook a main course without working through several batches. A smaller unit is handier if you cook for one or two people.
Can you cook more than chips in an air fryer?
Yes, you can cook chicken, fish, vegetables, meatballs and some baked goods. The number of programmes depends on the model, and 6, 8 or 12 are common in our range. Some models also let you set a low temperature, such as 40 or 80 °C, which is useful for defrosting or gentle reheating.
What temperature does an air fryer need?
Most recipes need up to 200 °C, which is also the maximum for many models in our range. Some appliances heat to 230 or 240 °C, which can help if you want to brown the surface faster. Power and accurate temperature control matter more than the top figure.
