The torches category covers torches for everyday use, hiking, repairs and trips, whenever you need light in the dark or while shooting at night. We stock over 35 models, including LEDLENSER, ESPERANZA, ENERGIZER and EVERACTIVE.
The choice runs from simple pocket torches to more technical models with an adjustable beam.
How to choose a torch
Light output. This is measured in lumens. A few hundred lumens is usually enough for repairs, dog walking or camping, while higher output matters when you need to light up distant objects. Check the beam distance as well, because a high lumen figure does not always mean the beam reaches far.
Power source. Torches that take AA or AAA cells are convenient because you can buy batteries almost anywhere and swap them on a trip. Models with a rechargeable battery pay off if you use the torch often, and USB charging lets you top up from a power bank or a car.
Handheld or headlamp. A handheld torch is easy to aim and usually throws light further. A headlamp leaves both hands free, so it is more practical for repairs, running or working with a camera tripod.
Beam adjustment and modes. Focusing optics let you switch from a narrow, long beam to wide light at close range. Several brightness modes extend running time, since everyday tasks rarely need full power.
Water resistance. The IPX rating shows how well a torch resists water: IPX4 withstands splashes, IPX7 withstands brief immersion. For a torch used outdoors, splash protection is the sensible minimum.

Frequently asked questions about torches
How many lumens do I need in a torch?
For everyday use, a few hundred lumens is usually enough. That is plenty to light a path, a workspace or the area around a tent. Higher output is only needed for distant objects, and it drains the battery faster.
What is the difference between a headlamp and a handheld torch?
A headlamp is strapped to your head and leaves both hands free, while a handheld torch has to be held. Handheld models usually reach further and are easier to point at a distant spot. For repairs, hiking and running, a headlamp is more comfortable.
Should I choose a rechargeable torch or one with batteries?
If you use the torch weekly or more often, a rechargeable battery is the better option, as you will not keep buying cells. If it is a spare kept in the car or at home, AA or AAA cells are more convenient because they hold their charge for a long time and are easy to replace.
Can I use a torch for photography?
Yes, a torch works as a helper light source. Photographers use it for light painting at night, to highlight a subject and to make focusing easier in the dark. For continuous video lighting, a separate LED light is the better tool.
