Camera rigs and video accessories

Camera rigs and video accessories

This category covers accessories for shooting and finishing video: lighting, stabilisers, filters, external monitors and recorders. It suits vloggers, small studios, event videographers and anyone who has outgrown what the camera offers on its own. Brands in our range include NEEWER, DJI, FREEWELL, ATOMOS and BenQ.

How to choose video production accessories

Compatibility with your camera. Check the mounting thread, filter diameter and video connections first. Most cameras have a 1/4-inch thread, but cages and mounting plates are often made for specific camera models. Filters must match the lens thread (or use a step-up ring), and an external monitor only works if your camera has the HDMI or SDI output it accepts.

The problem you are solving. Dim light, shaky footage, harsh sun and soft focus each call for a different accessory. A light helps indoors, a stabiliser smooths walking shots, an ND filter lets you keep a wide aperture in daylight, and an external monitor makes focus and exposure easier to judge. Buy for the biggest weakness in your current footage first.

Power and weight. Lights and monitors use more power than most people expect. See whether the device runs from USB-C, a removable battery (an NP-F type, for example) or mains only. For a stabiliser, the maximum payload is the key figure, and it must exceed the weight of your camera, lens and any accessories.

Colour and recording quality. With lights, look at colour rendering (CRI or TLCI ratings where stated) and adjustable colour temperature rather than brightness alone. For monitors and recorders, check the supported resolution and formats, such as 4K and ProRes-type codecs, if your editing workflow depends on them.

Brands in our range

  • NEEWER: known for affordable LED lights, camera cages and other mounting and support accessories for filming.
  • DJI: famous for handheld gimbal stabilisers and drones, so its accessories are often built around smooth, moving shots.
  • FREEWELL: specialises in filters, especially ND filters and quick-attach systems such as magnetic mounts.
  • ATOMOS: known for external monitors with built-in recording, which can capture higher-quality formats than many cameras record internally.
  • BenQ: recognised for colour-accurate monitors used by photographers and video editors.

Frequently asked questions about video production accessories

Which accessories should I buy first for video?

Start with steady support and better lighting. A tripod or stabiliser removes shake, and a light improves indoor footage more than almost any other purchase. Monitors, filters and recorders make sense once you know what limits your results.

What is an ND filter used for in video?

An ND filter reduces the amount of light reaching the lens without changing colours. In bright conditions it lets you keep a wide aperture and a slower shutter speed, which gives natural motion blur. The filter size must match your lens thread.

Do I need an external monitor or recorder?

Not always, but a monitor helps when the camera screen is too small or too dim for accurate focus. A recorder is worth considering if you want higher-quality formats than the camera records on its own. Check first that your camera's HDMI or SDI output matches the device's input.

How do I know if an accessory will fit my camera?

Compare your camera model with the compatibility details, mounting thread and connections in the product description. Universal accessories usually attach through a 1/4-inch thread or a cold shoe. Cages and plates are normally model-specific, so check those most carefully.
