Instant cameras print a photo within moments of taking it, which suits parties, travel, gifts and children. Our range holds over 100 models, mostly from Fujifilm, Kodak and Polaroid. These cameras are either analogue, using film packs, or hybrid, combining a digital sensor with a built-in printer.
How to choose an instant camera
Film format. Fujifilm uses instax Mini, Square and Wide film, while Polaroid has its own i-Type and 600 film. Choose the format first, because it decides the print size and which film you can buy. Mini prints fit in a wallet, and Wide suits group shots.
Analogue or hybrid. An analogue model prints exactly what the lens sees, so you cannot review the frame and a bad shot costs you a sheet of film. Hybrid models have a screen and let you pick the best shots before printing, and some can also print photos from your phone.
Running costs. Every print uses one sheet of film, and a pack usually holds eight or ten. Check what film costs and how easy it is to find before you buy, because over a year it can add up to more than the camera itself.
Shooting features. A small mirror beside the lens makes selfies easier, and a close-up mode is needed for shooting food or small objects at short range. Most simple models fire the flash automatically, and exposure compensation helps when a scene is very bright or very dark.

Instant camera FAQ
Is Fujifilm instax film compatible with Polaroid cameras?
No, film from these makers is not interchangeable. Instax film fits only instax cameras, and Polaroid film fits only Polaroid cameras. Pick the system first, then the specific model.
How long does an instant photo take to develop?
The image starts to appear within a few minutes, and the final colours settle after roughly a quarter of an hour. There is no need to shake the print. Lay it flat and keep it out of bright light while it develops.
Is an instant camera suitable for a child?
Yes, because simple analogue models have only a few controls and need no phone or app. Look for one with an automatic flash, and bear in mind the cost of film, since children tend to take a lot of shots.
Does film come with the camera?
Usually not, so film is normally bought separately, although some bundles may include a pack. Check the product description for what is supplied, and choose film that matches your camera's format.
