This category covers portable CD players with built-in speakers, as well as models with a radio tuner and Bluetooth. It suits anyone who owns a collection of discs and wants to play them without a computer. Most of our range comes from LENCO, MUSE, REFLEXION and PHILIPS, with over 60 models in total.
How to choose a CD player
Type of player. A portable player with built-in speakers works well in a kitchen, on a desk or when travelling, because it moves easily from room to room. If you plan to listen through an amplifier or active speakers, the audio output matters more than the internal speakers. Among the models in our range with a stated type, most are portable players with an LCD screen.
Sound power. Our range most often lists 3, 3.2 or 4 W RMS, which is enough for quiet background music in a small room. One model reaches 12 W and suits a larger space. Look at the RMS figure, since it shows continuous output rather than a short-lived peak.
Radio and Bluetooth. Some players have only an FM tuner, while others also receive DAB and DAB+ digital stations. Bluetooth with the A2DP profile carries stereo audio wirelessly, and AVRCP lets you control playback. A few models also list the SBC and LC3 codecs.
Power supply. If you want to carry the player around, choose one that runs on both batteries and mains. Our range includes models powered only from the mains, as well as ones that work on batteries or DC. Check whether the power adapter comes in the box.
Supported formats and connections. Most modern players read CD-R and CD-RW discs, and many also play MP3 files burned onto a disc. A USB port, headphone socket or line output is useful if you want to connect extra equipment. You will find these details in each product's specification.

Frequently asked questions
Can a portable CD player work without a wall socket?
Yes, if the model runs on batteries. Our range includes players that work on both mains and batteries, but also some that connect to the mains only. The power source is listed in the specification.
Does a CD player play MP3 discs?
Most modern CD players do play discs with MP3 files, but not all of them. It depends on the model, so check the list of supported formats. That list usually also states whether CD-R and CD-RW discs are supported.
What is Bluetooth for on a CD player?
Bluetooth carries audio wirelessly using the A2DP profile, and AVRCP allows playback control. Some models can send sound to wireless speakers or headphones, while others act as a receiver for music from your phone. Always check the direction in the specification.
How much speaker power is enough for a room?
For a small room or kitchen, 3 to 4 W RMS is usually enough. If you want louder sound, choose a more powerful model or connect external speakers. The RMS figure is a more realistic guide than total or peak power.
