Chromebooks

Chromebooks are laptops running ChromeOS, designed for study, web browsing, documents and other cloud-based work. Our range includes standard clamshell laptops and convertible models whose screen folds back or detaches. Most come from Acer and ASUS, with Lenovo and HP models as well.

How to choose a Chromebook

Screen size. A 14-inch (35.6 cm) screen is the most common choice: it fits in a rucksack and still leaves room for two windows side by side. 15.6-inch models suit heavy typing or spreadsheets, while 11.6 and 10.9-inch devices are aimed mainly at pupils and frequent travellers. We also stock a few 16-inch models.

Processor. ChromeOS is undemanding, so an Intel N-series or MediaTek Kompanio processor is enough for browsing, documents, video calls and streaming. Choose Intel Core 3 or Core 5 if you keep many tabs open or use Android apps or Linux. A few of our models have an Intel Core Ultra 7.

Memory and storage. Most files on a Chromebook live in the cloud, so 64 GB or 128 GB is often enough, and 256 GB helps if you keep a lot of files locally. eMMC storage is simpler and slower, whereas an SSD starts the system and apps faster. For light browsing 4 GB of RAM is usually adequate, but 8 GB is more comfortable with many tabs.

Display and form. Many of our models have a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA screen, which shows more lines of text, while others are Full HD. A 1366 x 768 resolution is rare and only suits basic tasks. A clamshell is comfortable for typing, whereas a convertible usually has a touchscreen and works as a tablet for reading or drawing.

Update period. Each Chromebook receives ChromeOS updates only up to a certain date, so check how long they will continue before you buy. This matters most if you plan to use the device for many years.

Chromebook brands in our range

  • Acer: has one of the largest Chromebook line-ups, including Chromebook Spin convertibles and the faster Chromebook Plus models.
  • ASUS: known for the Chromebook Flip series, convertibles whose screen folds back into tablet mode.
  • Lenovo: famous for the Chromebook Duet, a light tablet with a detachable keyboard.
  • HP: makes Chromebook x360 convertibles with a hinge that rotates through 360 degrees.

Chromebook FAQ

How is a Chromebook different from a Windows laptop?

A Chromebook runs ChromeOS, which is built around the Chrome browser and cloud services rather than traditional Windows software. It starts quickly and needs little maintenance, but you cannot install Windows programs directly. Much of the work is done in the browser, and Android apps can be used as well.

Does a Chromebook work without internet?

Yes, many basic functions work offline if you set them up beforehand. You can edit documents, read emails and watch downloaded videos once offline mode is enabled. Changes sync again when you reconnect.

How much storage does a Chromebook need?

For most users 64 GB or 128 GB is enough, because files are usually kept in the cloud. Choose 256 GB if you store many photos, videos or Android apps locally. Our range includes models from 32 GB to 512 GB.

Is a Chromebook suitable for school or university?

Yes, it is a common choice for study, since the system is simple, starts fast and coursework mostly needs only a browser and cloud tools. A smaller screen is lighter to carry, while 14 inches or more is more comfortable for long essays. If your school requires specific Windows software, check its requirements first.
