Keyboards

This category covers wired and wireless keyboards for computers and games consoles: mechanical gaming models, membrane keyboards for everyday typing, and smaller layouts. Our range has over 60 keyboards from makers such as Inateck, Sharkoon, Cherry, Conceptronic and ASUS.

They suit anyone who wants to type comfortably, play, or navigate a console menu from the sofa.

How to choose a keyboard

Connection. A wired keyboard needs no batteries and has no signal lag. In our range the cable length runs from 1.4 to 2 m. Wireless models connect through an RF receiver or Bluetooth, and some work both ways. If you sit in the living room in front of the TV, wireless is more convenient.

Key switches. A mechanical keyboard has a separate switch under every key, which gives a clear press and a longer lifespan, but it is louder. A membrane keyboard is quieter and suits shared rooms and offices. Most keyboards in our range are mechanical, with some membrane models and one with a magnetic mechanical switch.

Size. A full-size keyboard has a number pad, which helps with spreadsheets. A tenkeyless (TKL, 80-87%) model leaves more room for the mouse. Our range also includes 65%, 75% and 96% layouts, and 65% boards usually have no function-key row, so some actions need key combinations.

Backlighting. Backlighting helps in a dark room. Most backlit keyboards in our range offer multicolour (RGB) lighting, though some have a single colour.

Console compatibility. Check that your console supports USB or Bluetooth keyboards before buying. Many consoles use a keyboard for text entry only, and support inside games varies.

Keyboard FAQ

Can you connect a keyboard to a games console?

Many consoles accept a USB or Bluetooth keyboard. It is usually used for searching, messaging and entering login details. Whether it works inside a game depends on the specific game and console.

Is a mechanical or membrane keyboard better?

For gaming and heavy typing, a mechanical keyboard is usually the better fit, with a clear press and a longer lifespan. A membrane keyboard is quieter, so it suits shared spaces and offices. The choice mostly comes down to whether key feel or low noise matters more to you.

What size of keyboard should I buy?

If you work with numbers, choose a full-size model with a number pad. For gaming with more room for the mouse, a TKL or 65% keyboard works well. Smaller layouts drop some keys, so decide first which ones you cannot do without.

Is a wired or wireless keyboard better for gaming?

A wired keyboard normally gives the steadiest connection with no lag and never runs out of charge. A wireless keyboard with an RF receiver is often almost as fast, while Bluetooth can add a little more delay. For a console by the TV, wireless is more convenient, and at a desk wired is the simpler option.
