Flight sticks and joysticks

Flight sticks and joysticks

Flight simulator controllers: joysticks, HOTAS sets (a stick paired with a separate throttle), pedals and mounting stands for Microsoft Flight Simulator, DCS World or Elite Dangerous players. Our range has over 60 products, mostly from Thrustmaster and Moza Racing, with Logitech and Saitek models as well.

How to choose a flight simulator controller

Controller type. A single joystick is the simplest option: one hand handles pitch and roll, and the buttons sit on the grip. A HOTAS set adds a separate throttle lever, so each hand has its own buttons, as in a real fighter jet or spaceship.

Flying style. Airliner and light-aircraft flying rewards smooth, precise control and a few switches. Air combat and space games need many buttons within reach. Check how many axes and buttons you can use without letting go of the grips.

Sensors and force feedback. Magnetic (Hall effect) sensors generally wear more slowly than potentiometers and hold their accuracy for longer. Force feedback lets you feel turbulence and manoeuvre loads, but those controllers are bulkier and need a firm desk or frame mounting.

Pedals and rudder control. Rudder input comes from foot pedals or from a twisting stick. Pedals make landings and taxiing noticeably easier in realistic fixed-wing sims, and they matter even more in helicopters.

Compatibility and space. Most of these controllers connect by USB, but supported platforms vary, so check that a model works with your PC or console first. Also measure your desk: large sets sit better on a dedicated stand or cockpit frame.

Brands we carry

  • Thrustmaster: known for its HOTAS systems, including the Warthog and T.16000M lines, which many DCS World pilots use.
  • Moza Racing: best known for direct drive wheel bases, and it also makes force feedback flight sticks.
  • Logitech and Saitek: the Saitek Pro Flight and X52 lines now belong to Logitech G, so both names offer similar HOTAS sets and yokes.
  • Next Level Racing and Wheel Stand Pro: make stands and cockpit frames on which wheels, pedals and flight controllers can be mounted.

Also in our range: Esperanza and Speedlink.

Frequently asked questions about flight simulator controllers

What is the difference between HOTAS and a normal joystick?

A HOTAS set has two parts: a stick and a separate throttle, both with buttons. A normal joystick has a single control unit, so throttle often ends up on a small wheel or the keyboard. HOTAS is more comfortable when a game needs many functions at hand all the time.

Do I need foot pedals for a flight simulator?

Not always, but they help. Many joysticks have a twisting grip for rudder, yet pedals give finer control and free up your hands. They are especially useful in helicopters and realistic fixed-wing simulators.

What should I start with if I am new to flight sims?

A simple joystick with a few buttons and a throttle wheel, or a basic HOTAS set, is enough to begin with. You can add pedals or a stand later. Choose by the games you play rather than by the number of buttons.

Do flight simulator controllers work with game consoles?

It depends on the specific model and console. Most flight controllers are designed for PC, and console support is the exception. Check the supported platforms in the product details before you buy.
