Server power supplies

Server power supplies

Server power supplies for servers, storage systems and network equipment: this category holds hot-swap modules, standard server units and power supplies for networking devices. Our range includes over 70 models, mostly from HP Enterprise, Dell, Netgear, HPE and Cisco.

How to choose a server power supply

Compatibility. Server power supplies are usually made for a specific model or server family, so the manufacturer's part number and the unit's form factor must match. Check the label on the existing unit or the server documentation.

Power. Choose the wattage according to the server's configuration: number of processors, amount of memory, drives and expansion cards. Our range runs from 150 W to 1200 W, with 750 W units the most numerous. It is worth leaving a little headroom so the unit does not run at its limit.

Redundancy and hot-swapping. In a server with two power supplies, the second keeps the system running if one fails, and the faulty module can be replaced without shutting the server down. Before buying, check that your server has a free bay for a second unit.

Input voltage and efficiency. Many units in our range accept a wide AC input, for example 100 to 240 V, so they suit the 230 V mains in Lithuania. A higher efficiency class (such as 80 Plus Platinum) cuts heat and electricity use, which matters for a server running around the clock.

Intended use. The category is not only server units: some are meant for NAS devices, network equipment or even ordinary PCs. Pick the one listed as suitable for your type of device.

Brands we carry

  • HP Enterprise and HPE: makers of ProLiant servers, so their power supplies are designed for those server families.
  • Dell: known for PowerEdge servers, which use original hot-swap power modules.
  • Supermicro: a maker of server motherboards and chassis, whose servers often use redundant power supplies.
  • Netgear, Cisco, TP-Link and D-Link: networking brands, so their units are generally intended for switches and other network devices.
  • Synology: known for NAS devices, with power supplies made for its storage models.
  • Fortron: a power supply manufacturer whose products are used in both PCs and servers.

Also in our range: HP and Inter-Tech.

Frequently asked questions

Can a server power supply be used in a normal PC?

Usually not. Server units tend to have their own form factor and connectors rather than the standard ATX size. If you need a unit for a desktop PC, look for PC listed as the intended use in the product description.

How many watts does a server need?

It depends on the processors, memory, drives and expansion cards. Small servers and NAS devices can manage with a few hundred watts, while more demanding configurations often use 750 W or larger units. The server manufacturer's recommendation is the most reliable guide.

What is a hot-swap power supply?

It is a unit that can be pulled out and replaced while the server stays on. It is used in servers with redundant power, where one unit acts as a backup. This avoids downtime when a unit fails.

Can I fit another brand's power supply in an HPE or Dell server?

Generally no. Servers from these manufacturers usually accept only units made for them, because connectors, form factor and management signals differ. Compare the part number with the label on your current unit before buying.
