How to choose a PC power supply
Wattage. The unit must deliver more than the computer draws under load, and the graphics card usually draws the most. A PC with integrated graphics often needs no more than 650 W, a gaming PC with a strong graphics card more often needs 700 to 950 W, and 1000 W or more is only worth choosing for very demanding systems.
Efficiency. An 80 PLUS certificate (Bronze, Gold, Platinum, Titanium) shows how much of the power drawn from the wall becomes usable energy and how much is lost as heat. For a PC that runs many hours a day, Gold or higher is worth considering.
Connectors and cables. Newer graphics cards may need a 12VHPWR (12V-2x6) connector, which ATX 3.0 and later units provide. Modular units let you connect only the cables you need, which leaves more room for airflow in the case.
Size. Most cases take an ATX unit, while small cases need the SFX or TFX format. Check which format the case manufacturer lists before you buy.
Colour. Most units in our range are black, with some silver and white ones. Colour only matters if the unit is visible through a transparent side panel.

What wattage power supply does my PC need?
Choose a unit whose rating comfortably exceeds the total draw of your components. The graphics card is the deciding factor, as its manufacturer states a recommended power supply wattage. An office PC often needs no more than 650 W.
What does the 80 PLUS certificate mean?
It is an efficiency standard showing how much of the electricity from the wall a power supply converts into usable energy for the PC. The levels run from Bronze to Titanium, and a higher level means less energy lost as heat. The certificate says nothing about the unit's wattage.
What is the difference between modular and non-modular power supplies?
On a non-modular unit all cables are fixed, while on a modular unit you attach only the ones you need. A semi-modular unit has a few fixed cables and the rest detachable. Modular units make building and cable routing easier in smaller cases.
When should I replace my power supply?
Replace it if the PC shuts down or restarts under load, makes unusual noise or gives off a burning smell. You may also need a new one when a new graphics card requires more power or connectors that your current unit lacks.
