Power supplies 700–950 W

Power supplies 700–950 W

This category covers PC power supply units rated from 700 to 950 W, suited to gaming PCs with a high-end graphics card and workstations with several drives. Our range has over 350 models, from non-modular to fully modular, with 80 PLUS Bronze, Gold, Platinum or Titanium certification. Leading brands include Chieftec, Thermaltake, Deepcool and GameMax.

How to choose a 700-950 W power supply

Wattage. Base your choice on the graphics card and processor manufacturers' recommendations, not on the biggest number. Most models in our range are 750 W or 850 W, with some at 700 W and 800 W. If you do not plan to expand the PC, 750 W is often enough, while 850 W or more makes sense with a high-draw graphics card or when you expect to upgrade it later.

Efficiency. The 80 PLUS certification shows how much of the power drawn from the wall is converted into usable energy rather than heat. 80 PLUS Gold is the most common level in our range, alongside Bronze, Platinum and Titanium. Gold is often a sensible balance, while higher tiers benefit PCs that run for long hours under heavy load.

Cabling. Fully modular units let you connect only the cables you need, which makes the case easier to tidy and helps airflow. Most of our models are fully modular, and there are also semi-modular and non-modular ones. Non-modular units have a simpler design, but unused cables stay inside the case.

Connectors. Check that there are enough PCIe connectors for the graphics card and Molex connectors for extra devices. Some recent graphics cards need a 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 connector, so look at the cable set of the specific model before buying. The motherboard connector is usually 20+4 pin ATX, and many of our models have between two and four Molex connectors.

Frequently asked questions

What wattage power supply do I need for a gaming PC?

It depends on the graphics card, so first check the power supply wattage its manufacturer recommends. A mid-range gaming PC often runs well on 700-750 W, while a high-end graphics card is safer with 850 W or more. Extra headroom also lets you change the graphics card later without replacing the power supply.

Is a fully modular power supply worth it?

Yes, if you want a tidier case and better airflow. A fully modular unit lets you connect only the cables you need and leave the rest in the box. In a large case with few components, a non-modular unit can work just as well.

What is the difference between 80 PLUS Bronze and 80 PLUS Gold?

An 80 PLUS Gold unit converts power more efficiently than a Bronze one at the same load, so it gives off less heat. The difference matters most in PCs that run for long hours under heavy load. Gold units often use better components too, but that depends on the specific model.

Can a power supply with too high a wattage damage my PC?

No, a PC draws only as much power as it needs, so a higher-rated unit will not harm the components. At very low loads its efficiency may drop slightly. It is best to choose a unit with sensible headroom rather than the highest wattage available.
