Wires, cables

This category covers video (HDMI, DisplayPort), network (RJ45), USB, audio and power cables, plus adapters for home, office and server room use. Our range includes over 2,000 models, with products from EFB Elektronik, Digitus, Gembird and Goobay among others.

Choose a cable by its connector, standard and length rather than by looks alone.

How to choose a cable

Connector type. Start by checking which ports both devices have: HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, USB-A, RJ45 or something else. If they differ, you need a cable with different ends (USB-C to HDMI, for example) or a separate adapter.

Standard and speed. The same connector can hide very different capabilities. 4K at 120 Hz needs a cable that supports HDMI 2.1, and some USB-C cables only handle charging and slow data transfer. For a home network Cat6 is usually enough, while Cat6A is built for 10 Gbit/s over distances of up to 100 m.

Length. Measure the route and add a few tens of centimetres so the cable is not under tension. Long high-speed video or USB cables can lose signal, so for longer distances look for an active or optical cable.

Shielding and conductors. Near power cables or electrical equipment, a shielded network cable (S/FTP, for example) is the safer choice. Solid copper conductors are generally better than copper-clad aluminium (CCA), as they carry signal and current more effectively.

Colour. Most cables in our range are black, but white, grey, red, blue and orange ones are available too. Colour matters when cables are on show or when you want to tell different runs apart.

Frequently asked questions about cables

What is the difference between Cat6 and Cat6A network cable?

Cat6A is built for a higher frequency and delivers 10 Gbit/s over up to 100 m, while Cat6 reaches that speed only over shorter runs. Cat6A cables are usually thicker and shielded. For an ordinary home network, Cat6 is often enough.

Are all USB-C cables the same?

No. USB-C describes only the shape of the connector, and the cable's abilities depend on its specification. Some cables carry only charging and slow data, while others support fast data transfer, video output or higher charging power. Check the USB standard and maximum power in the product description before buying.

How can I tell whether an HDMI cable supports 4K?

Look for the HDMI version or certification name in the description. 4K at 60 Hz needs at least a High Speed cable, while 4K at 120 Hz and 8K call for an Ultra High Speed (HDMI 2.1) cable. The screen and the source device must also both support HDMI 2.1.

What is the maximum length of a network cable?

A single Ethernet run can be up to 100 m, including the patch cables at both ends. For longer distances, place a network switch between the devices or use fibre optic cable.
