DC power cables

DC power cables

DC power cables connect direct-current devices to a power supply or another source: this category holds cables with DC connectors and extension cables for routers, cameras, computer accessories and business equipment. Our range has over 90 models, including DELOCK, INLINE, ZEBRA and WENTRONIC.

They suit anyone replacing a damaged cable or bringing power further from the socket.

How to choose a DC power cable

Connector type and size. Round DC plugs differ in outer and inner diameter, for example 5.5 x 2.1 mm and 5.5 x 2.5 mm, so a plug of the wrong size either sits loosely or does not fit at all. Check the marking on the old cable or the device, and if there is none, measure the plug with a calliper.

Length. Our range includes cables from 0.5 m to 5 m, most often 1, 2, 3 and 5 m. Choose only as much as you need to reach the power source: surplus cable gets tangled, and a longer run increases voltage loss.

Voltage and current. The cable must handle the current the device draws. A thin wire connected to a power-hungry device heats up and can cause a voltage drop. Check the current printed on the power supply and compare it with the cable's rated load.

Polarity and compatibility. In most devices the positive pole is inside the plug, but some are the other way round. Reversing the polarity can damage the device, so compare the symbol on the old power supply with the description of the new cable. When replacing an original cable, it is best to use the type the device manufacturer recommends.

Brands we carry

  • DELOCK: a well-known maker of computer and network connectors, adapters and cables, which makes it easier to find less common connector combinations.
  • INLINE: produces cables, adapters and other computer accessories that office and IT installers often choose.
  • WENTRONIC: also sells cables and accessories under the goobay brand, with straightforward everyday solutions.
  • ZEBRA and HONEYWELL: known for barcode scanners, label printers and mobile computers, and their cables are usually meant for powering this business equipment.
  • CAMBIUM NETWORKS and STARLINK: the first makes wireless networking equipment and the second provides satellite internet, so their cables are intended for powering those devices.
  • LENOVO and TARGUS: Lenovo makes laptops, while Targus is known for laptop bags and accessories.

Also in our range: MICRO CONNECT, DIGITUS and S CONN MAXIMUM CONNECTIVITY.

Frequently asked questions about DC power cables

What is a DC power cable?

A DC power cable carries direct current from a power supply or battery to a device. It usually ends in a round DC plug, although other connectors exist. Such cables are used with routers, cameras, small computers and other low-voltage equipment.

How do I find out which DC connector I need?

Start with the marking on the device, its power supply or the old cable, which often states the plug size, such as 5.5 x 2.1 mm. If there is no marking, measure the outer and inner diameter of the plug with a calliper. Also check the voltage and the polarity symbol.

Can I use a longer DC cable?

Yes, as long as the wire is thick enough for the device's current. A longer cable increases voltage loss, so sensitive or power-hungry devices may run unstably. The higher the current, the more important it is to choose a shorter or thicker cable.

Can I use a DC cable from a different manufacturer?

Yes, provided the connector size, voltage and polarity match and the cable can handle the required current. The same plug size alone is not enough. If you are unsure, choose a cable according to the specifications given by the device manufacturer.
