How to choose a powerline adapter
Standard and speed. The quoted speed is a theoretical maximum, and real-world throughput is lower and depends on the condition of the wiring. Newer standards such as HomePlug AV2 or G.hn are generally faster than older ones, but every adapter in a set must support the same standard, so the safest choice is a kit from one manufacturer.
Wi-Fi or Ethernet only. An adapter with an Ethernet port connects a computer, TV or console by cable. A model with Wi-Fi also creates a wireless network in a room where signal was lacking. If you plan to wire several devices, check how many Ethernet ports the adapter has.
Pass-through mains socket. Plug the adapter straight into a wall socket where possible, because extension leads and surge-protected strips can weaken the signal. A model with a built-in socket does not use up the wall socket, and you can power another device through it.
