High-wattage power supplies (1000 W+)

High-wattage power supplies (1000 W+)

This category covers computer power supply units of 1000 W and above for gaming PCs, workstations and systems with several graphics cards. Our range has over 200 models from 1000 W up to 1600 W, with brands including ASUS, Thermaltake, Corsair and MSI.

How to choose a power supply of 1000 W or more

Wattage. Add up the power draw of the graphics card and processor, allow for the other components and leave some headroom for short load spikes. Most models in our range are 1000 W, with others at 1050, 1200, 1250, 1300 and 1600 W. Going to 1200 W or above makes sense mainly for multi-GPU builds or a workstation with very high power demands.

Efficiency. The 80 PLUS rating shows how much of the power drawn from the wall is delivered to the components and how much is lost as heat. Most of our models are rated Gold or Platinum, and there are Titanium units too. A higher rating means less waste and often a quieter fan, but the gap between Gold and Platinum is small, so first consider how many hours a day the PC runs under heavy load.

Connectors and cables. Count the PCIe power connectors your graphics card needs. Newer cards often use the 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector, so check whether it is supplied or whether an adapter will do. Most of our units have a 20+4 pin ATX motherboard connector, and the number of extra Molex connectors ranges from none to six, which matters if you still use older fan controllers or lighting strips. Modular cables make building easier and help airflow inside the case.

Size and input voltage. High-wattage units are often longer than a typical ATX power supply, so compare the length with your case specification and leave room for the cables. Most units in our range accept 100 - 240 V, so they work on the 230 V mains in Lithuania.

Brands we carry

  • ASUS: ROG Thor units have an OLED display that shows live power consumption.
  • Corsair: a long-standing power supply maker, known for its HX and AX series aimed at high-end systems.
  • Thermaltake: the Toughpower series includes models of 1000 W and above.
  • Seasonic: known for its Prime series, a high-end line favoured by enthusiasts.
  • be quiet!: known for quiet operation, with the Dark Power and Straight Power series.
  • MSI and Gigabyte: best known for motherboards and graphics cards, so their power supplies are often bought alongside those components.

Also in our range: Lian Li, Enermax, ASRock, Fortron Source and Inter-Tech.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts does a gaming PC need?

Most gaming PCs need less than 1000 W. A unit of 1000 W or more makes sense with a very power-hungry graphics card, several graphics cards or a demanding workstation. For a precise figure, add up the power draw of your components and include some headroom.

Is 80 PLUS Platinum worth choosing over Gold?

Platinum is worth it if the PC runs many hours under heavy load or you want quieter cooling. A Platinum unit wastes less energy as heat than a Gold one, but the difference is small, so for lighter use Gold is often enough. Titanium is for buyers who put efficiency first.

Does a 1000 W power supply use more electricity in a weaker PC?

No, the unit draws only as much power from the wall as the components need. At very low loads efficiency drops slightly, but the difference is usually small. The real drawbacks of too much capacity are the higher cost and larger size.

Do I need modular cables on a high-wattage power supply?

Modular cables are not essential, but they are very handy on a high-wattage unit. Such units come with many cables, and a modular design lets you connect only the ones you use, which keeps the case tidier and improves airflow.
