Power adapters

Power adapters for cameras, video cameras and other electronics: mains power supplies, laptop chargers and power units for surveillance cameras. Our range includes over 30 models, among them products from Dell, Hikvision, Axis and Lenovo. The category covers devices with different purposes, so it helps to know exactly what you need to power before you choose.

How to choose a power adapter

Compatibility with your device. Start with the manufacturer and exact model printed on the device or on the label of the old adapter. Power supplies for cameras and laptops are often made for specific series, even when the plugs look identical.

Voltage and current. The voltage (V) must match what the device requires. Current (A) or power (W) can be the same or higher, but a weaker adapter may overheat, charge slowly or fail.

Connector and polarity. Round plugs differ in diameter and in the polarity of the centre pin, and the wrong plug can damage a device. USB-C chargers differ in the power they deliver, and some cameras run from a mains adapter through a dummy battery.

Power method for surveillance cameras. IP cameras can be powered by a separate adapter or through the network cable using PoE. Check which method your camera and network equipment support before buying.

Original or compatible. An original manufacturer adapter gives exact specifications and simpler warranty handling. Compatible models from other makers usually cost less, but their ratings must match those on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out which power adapter I need?

The required values are printed on the device body or on the label of the old adapter: voltage (V), current (A) or power (W), and the connector type. If there is no label, look up the model name in the manufacturer's specifications.

Can I use an adapter with a higher wattage?

Yes, as long as the voltage and connector match, an adapter with a higher current or wattage normally works. The device draws only the energy it needs. A lower-wattage adapter is risky because it can overheat.

Can I power a camera without a battery?

Some cameras can be powered this way, but it usually needs a mains adapter together with a dummy battery. This is useful for long recordings or time-lapse shooting. Check that your model supports it.

What is the difference between PoE and a separate power adapter for a surveillance camera?

PoE carries power and data over the same network cable, so no extra cable is needed at the camera. A separate adapter is used when the camera has no PoE or the network equipment does not support it. The right choice depends on the camera model.
