How to choose microphone accessories
Compatibility. Start by checking which microphone or system an accessory is made for. DJI accessories are generally built for DJI microphone systems, so they may not fit another maker's equipment. Also check whether your camera has a 3.5 mm microphone socket or only offers audio input over USB-C.
Connector and adapter. 3.5 mm plugs come as TRS and TRRS, and the two are not always interchangeable. Most cameras expect a TRS signal, while smartphones and headsets with a microphone usually use TRRS. The wrong cable gives very quiet sound or none at all. Many action cameras have no 3.5 mm socket, so an adapter is needed.
Wind protection. Outdoors, wind quickly drowns out speech. A foam cover is enough indoors or in a light breeze, while a long furry cover, known as a dead cat, copes better with stronger wind. If you film outside, it is worth buying wind protection together with the microphone.
Mounting. Many microphones attach to the camera through a cold shoe. If that is already taken by a flash or monitor, you will need an extra bracket or a cage with several mounting points. A well-secured microphone picks up fewer handling vibrations and knocks.
Power. For wireless systems, battery life and the way you charge matter. If you film all day, think about a charger or spare charging case so the recording does not stop at the worst moment.

Not always. Fit depends on the microphone socket, the connector type and the mounting, and manufacturer accessories are often made only for that brand's own systems. Before buying, check which connector your camera has and which model the accessory is designed for.
Why does a microphone need wind protection?
Wind protection reduces the noise caused by moving air hitting the microphone capsule directly. Without it, speech recorded outdoors is often muffled and hard to follow. Foam suits indoor use, while a furry cover holds back stronger wind.
What is the difference between TRS and TRRS connectors?
A TRS plug has three contacts and a TRRS plug has four, the extra one carrying the microphone signal. Most camera microphone sockets are TRS, while phones and headsets with a microphone usually use TRRS. If the types do not match, the sound can be quiet or missing, so you need the right cable or adapter.
How do I connect a wireless microphone to a camera?
Attach the receiver to the camera's cold shoe or a bracket and link it to the camera's microphone socket with a cable. Some cameras also accept audio over USB-C. Once connected, check the audio recording level in the camera settings and make a short test clip.
