Data Input Devices

Data Input Devices

Data input devices here cover keyboards, mice and equipment for controlling several computers, suited to office desks, home set-ups and server rooms. Our range includes over 25 products from ATEN, DELL and Logitech, with HP, Lenovo and DIGITUS alongside.

Choices run from simple wired peripherals to professional devices that manage several computers from a single place.

How to choose a data input device

Device type. Start with the job it has to do. A keyboard and mouse handle daily typing and pointing, while a KVM switch lets one keyboard, mouse and monitor control several computers, which is why it is common in server rooms and on test benches. The two kinds of device are not interchangeable.

Wired or wireless. A wired USB connection needs no batteries, so it suits a fixed workstation. Wireless sets cut down on cable clutter and are handy with a laptop, but they need batteries or charging, plus a free USB port or Bluetooth for the link.

Operating environment. In an ordinary office temperature hardly matters, but equipment in cabinets, workshops or technical rooms should match the conditions. Operating temperatures stated in our range include 0 to 40 °C, 0 to 50 °C and -10 to 50 °C, so compare the figure with the room where the device will sit.

Layout and comfort. Check that the keyboard has the layout you type in: Lithuanian letters need either an LT layout or a switchable input language. A full-size keyboard includes a numeric pad, which accountants and data-entry staff use constantly. For a mouse, choose a size that sits comfortably in your hand rather than chasing sensor figures.

Compatibility. Make sure the device supports your operating system (Windows, macOS or Linux) and that your computer has the right ports. KVM equipment also needs cables for the relevant video standard, such as HDMI or DisplayPort, and these are sometimes sold separately.

Brands we carry

  • ATEN: best known for KVM switches and console equipment used in server rooms and IT cabinets, and the largest group in this category in our range.
  • DELL: makes office keyboards and mice that are a familiar sight in corporate workplaces alongside its computers and monitors.
  • Logitech: known for keyboards and mice for home and office, including wireless sets.
  • HP and Lenovo: computer makers whose keyboards and mice are usually designed as companions to their own business laptops and desktops.

Also in our range: DIGITUS.

Frequently asked questions

How does a KVM switch differ from a keyboard and mouse?

A KVM switch is not an input device in itself: it shares one keyboard, mouse and monitor between several computers. A keyboard and mouse simply send your commands to a single computer. A switch is worth considering when one workstation has to control two or more machines.

Is a wireless keyboard and mouse better than a wired set?

Neither is better in every case. A wired connection needs no batteries or charging and suits a permanent desk, while a wireless set frees up desk space and works well with a laptop. For a computer that runs all day, a wired set is often the simpler choice.

Do keyboards and mice work with both Windows and macOS?

Most standard USB keyboards and mice work with both systems because they use common drivers. The differences are usually extra keys: a Windows keyboard has a Windows key where macOS uses Command, and some manufacturer software features run on only one system. Check the list of supported systems before buying.

Can data input devices be used in a cold or hot room?

Yes, as long as the room stays within the operating temperature stated for the device. Limits in our range include 0 to 40 °C, 0 to 50 °C and -10 to 50 °C. If a room can drop below freezing, choose a model whose range starts at -10 °C.
