Grinders and sanders

Grinders and sanders

Sanders and grinders: random orbital, orbital, belt, delta and angle grinders for wood, metal, paint and walls. Our range holds over 800 products, with BOSCH, MAKITA, METABO and EINHELL among the leading brands. You can choose for home renovation as well as for regular workshop use.

How to choose a sander or grinder

Type of tool. A random orbital sander suits flat wooden and painted surfaces because it leaves fewer visible scratches. A belt sander removes a lot of material quickly from planks and beams, while a delta sander reaches corners and narrow spots. An angle grinder is made for grinding metal, removing rust and cutting.

Power source. A corded sander delivers constant power for as long as you need it, so it is the sensible choice for long sessions in a workshop. A cordless model is more convenient where there is no socket, and if you already own batteries from the same maker, you can buy the tool without a battery and charger.

Power and speed control. A more powerful tool does not bog down under load, but it is heavier and tires your arms sooner. Speed control matters when sanding varnished surfaces, plastic and paint, because excessive speed can heat and damage them.

Disc or pad size. Angle grinder discs usually come in 115, 125 and 230 mm. A smaller disc is lighter and easier to hold with one hand, while a larger one cuts deeper. Random orbital sanders commonly have a 125 mm pad, and the sandpaper attaches with a hook-and-loop backing, so it changes in seconds.

Dust extraction. Dust from wood, paint and filler is harmful to breathe and quickly clogs the abrasive. Choose a model with a dust bag or a connection for a vacuum cleaner, especially if you will be sanding indoors.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an angle grinder and a random orbital sander?

An angle grinder is designed for cutting, cleaning and grinding metal with rigid discs, and it spins fast and removes a lot of material. A random orbital sander smooths wood, paint and filler into an even surface. Sanding metal with an orbital sander is difficult, and using an angle grinder on wood can easily damage it.

Which sander is best for wooden floors and furniture?

For furniture and smaller surfaces, a random orbital sander is usually best because it does not leave obvious streaks. Large floor or plank areas are quicker with a belt sander, though it needs careful handling to avoid gouging the surface. A delta sander helps with corners and narrow spots.

What sandpaper grit should I choose?

To remove old paint or level a rough surface, start with coarse abrasive, roughly P40 to P60. Medium grit, around P80 to P120, smooths the surface, and P180 to P240 suits final sanding before painting or varnishing. It is best to work through the grits in order without skipping too many steps.

Is a cordless sander worth buying?

A cordless sander is worth considering if you often work without a socket nearby or already own batteries from the same maker. It is handier on a ladder or outdoors. For long sanding sessions or heavy metalwork, a corded tool is often more practical because you never need to swap batteries.
