How to choose a filter coffee machine
Machine type. A drip coffee maker brews several cups at once, which suits a family or guests. An espresso machine makes one or two cups at a time and gives a stronger, more concentrated drink. Our range includes both types, and most models are fully automatic, though there are also semi-automatic and manual ones.
Type of coffee. Machines with a grinder crush the beans just before brewing, so the aroma is fuller. If you prefer simplicity, choose a ground coffee model, as there is no grinder to clean. Some machines accept both beans and ground coffee.
Capacity and serving. Water tanks in our range mostly run from 1 to 1.8 litres, and 1.8 litres is enough for around ten cups or more. A glass jug keeps coffee warm on a hotplate, while a thermos keeps it hot without constant heating. Espresso machines usually pour straight into your cup.
Controls and upkeep. Buttons and rotary dials are quick and simple, while a touch panel lets you save your settings. Check whether the water tank and grounds container are removable, as this makes cleaning easier. In hard water areas you will need to descale more often.

What is the difference between a filter coffee machine and an espresso machine?
A filter machine drips hot water through ground coffee, producing a milder drink in larger quantities. An espresso machine forces water through the coffee under high pressure and makes a concentrated cup. The first suits several people at once, the second suits those who like strong coffee or cappuccino.
What water tank size do I need?
For one or two people, a tank of about 1 or 1.25 litres is enough. For a family or an office, 1.7 or 1.8 litres means you will not need to refill several times a day. A larger tank takes up more space, so measure your shelf first.
Should I choose a machine for beans or for ground coffee?
A bean machine gives a fresher aroma, because the coffee is ground just before brewing. It needs more frequent cleaning, and the grinder makes some noise. A ground coffee machine is simpler and convenient if you buy your coffee already ground.
How often should I descale a coffee machine?
Descale when the machine's indicator tells you to, or follow the manufacturer's instructions, which often means every few months. Limescale builds up faster in hard water, so you will need to descale more often. Regular upkeep extends the machine's life and keeps the coffee tasting right.
