How to choose an electric screwdriver
Shape and purpose. A stick-style screwdriver fits into tight spaces and suits flat-pack furniture and small repairs. A pistol grip lets you press harder and is more comfortable with longer screws. If you only drive a few screws now and then, a smaller tool is enough.
Power source. Most small screwdrivers have a built-in lithium-ion battery that you charge with a cable. Stronger tools often use a removable 12 V or 18 V battery, so it makes sense to pick a tool from the same system if you already own batteries at home. In that case you can sometimes buy the tool without a battery.
Torque. A few newton metres is enough for assembling furniture or tightening small devices, while wood screws and denser materials need considerably more. A weak tool stalls, and a strong one without adjustment can damage the screw head or the panel.
Extra features. An adjustable clutch stops the tool at a set force and prevents overtightening. Reverse is needed for removing screws, an LED light shows the work area, and a convenient bit holder makes changing bits quick. Check whether a bit set is included.

What is the difference between an electric screwdriver and a drill driver?
An electric screwdriver is lighter, has lower torque and is designed mainly for driving screws. A drill driver spins faster and has a chuck, so it can drill larger holes. A screwdriver is enough for furniture and small jobs, while building work and dense timber call for a stronger tool.
How much torque do I need for assembling furniture?
Assembling furniture usually needs only low torque, because the panels and fittings are soft. An adjustable clutch matters more, since it stops the screw being overtightened. Longer screws going into timber call for a stronger model.
Is a built-in or a removable battery better?
A built-in battery suits small, occasionally used tools, because they are lighter and usually charge with a cable. A removable battery is more convenient if you work for longer or already own tools from the same system, as you can swap in a charged one. It is also easier to replace when it wears out.
Can I drill with an electric screwdriver?
Sometimes, but only if the model has a chuck or bit holder that accepts drill bits and enough rotation speed. Small stick-style screwdrivers can drill soft wood or plastic with a thin bit. For regular drilling a drill driver is the better choice.
