Docks and hubs

Docks and hubs

The docks and hubs category covers laptop docking stations, USB hubs, charging cradles for tablets and rugged handheld devices, and vehicle mounts. Our range includes Panasonic, RAM Mounts, Zebra and Targus products, so you can equip an office desk, a warehouse or a vehicle.

How to choose a dock or hub

Compatibility. Docks for rugged devices from Panasonic, Getac or Zebra are usually made for a specific model, so check the exact device name before buying. Universal USB-C docks and hubs suit many laptops, tablets and phones, but video output and charging depend on what the device's own USB-C port supports.

Ports. Count what you need to connect: a monitor (HDMI or DisplayPort), a wired network through Ethernet, a keyboard, a mouse or a memory card reader. If you use many USB-A devices every day, choose a model with enough of them rather than a basic hub with a few sockets.

Power. A dock that also charges your laptop should deliver at least as much power as your usual charger. A low-power hub will top up a phone, but it may not keep a laptop charged while you work. Hubs with many ports often need their own power supply.

Where you will use it. In an office, a desktop dock that stays connected to your monitor and keyboard is enough. In a warehouse, factory or vehicle, a secure fit and resistance to vibration matter more, which is why specialist cradles and mounts such as RAM Mounts are used there.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a dock and a hub?

A hub mainly adds more USB ports, while a dock usually combines more functions through one cable: video output, network, audio, USB ports and laptop charging. A dock therefore suits a permanent workstation, and a hub suits a quick way to add extra sockets.

Will one dock work with any laptop?

Not always. USB-C docks work with many newer laptops, but rugged devices often need a dedicated dock made for a specific model. Before buying, compare your device model and port type with the compatibility listed in the product description.

Can I connect a monitor through a hub or dock?

Yes, if the dock has an HDMI or DisplayPort output and your device's USB-C or other port supports video output. Basic USB-A hubs do not carry video. If you plan to use several monitors, check how many the dock can drive at the same time.

Does a USB hub need its own power supply?

Small hubs for a keyboard or mouse usually run on power from the device. If you connect an external drive or several devices, or want to charge a phone, a hub with its own power adapter is a better choice. It helps avoid unstable connections and slow charging.
